Effective control of a resisting suspect becomes much more difficult when officers don’t have control of the overall encounter, including bystanders and agitators. An ongoing challenge will continue to exist in cities like this where people feel empowered to openly oppose law enforcement.

While one law enforcement death is too many, this is one bright spot — the amount of law enforcement deaths in the line of duty dropped 25% from 2024 to 2025, and that's the lowest number of law enforcement line of duty deaths since 1943. We're very thankful for that, and it matters who's in charge. That's an objective fact and it's a direct correlation to public policy. Republicans are going to continue to pursue legislation that makes officers safer and will also continue to advance transformational policies like No Tax on Overtime, which tens of thousands of law enforcement officers and their families have already benefited from and they're telling us about it when we go home.

Here is another snippet of my conversation with Ryan James Girdusky. There is a societal cost to enforcing the law and that cost is paid by society through danger to both our law enforcement officers and our civilians. This cost is an inevitability built it to the reality of enforcement and human nature. But America’s officers are very well trained and considering the size of our country and the number of officers or civilians lost during enforcement — we’re very successful at keeping this cost to a minimum. American law enforcement leaders are dedicated to a constant and continuing effort to minimize risks to both officers and civilians. Every life lost in an enforcement operation becomes a learning experience for officers throughout the country. Our law enforcement leaders have done a tremendous job developing training and strategies that have rendered use-of-force tragedies into anomalies. Americans should be very proud of where we are today as far as training of our officers.

They did not comply. Shortly after, rioters began throwing rocks, bottles, and launching fireworks at law enforcement officers. At the time of this incident, the facility they were rioting outside of held criminal illegal aliens including gang members, drug traffickers, and other violent criminals. Obstructing law enforcement puts officers, detainees and the public at risk. Our officers followed their training to protect themselves and the public.

If you are in this country illegally, you have broken federal law. And it is the responsibility of the federal government to enforce that law, to remove you and return you to your country of origin. When leaders in blue states refuse to comply with federal authorities, they are not “resisting,” they are breaking the law themselves. You don’t get to attack law enforcement just because you don’t like the outcome of an election. If you disagree with policy, you win the next election. That’s how a constitutional republic works.
