And that ended the peace and love of the 60’s.

The documentary “Gimme Shelter”

Altamont!

Been taking blotter acid and drinking ripple wine all day —Keith Richards

I fuckin' love 1969 Keith. Great movie. I wish I was there front stage at Altamont. That said, this skinny little Brit telling the Hells Angels to cool it or else, always rang a little hollow. This is the pic I love. Does this dude want to fuck Mick, tear him to pieces, or both? One of the best shots in a movie full of great shots. Maysles were the right duo to film this.

Keef will sort 'em

A bad gig it was never thought out

Guess what! The cats were not cool.

they didn't cool it

“You knocked out my guitarist man!“

Altamont and not Woodstock was the true defining moment of the 60s .

Man that event was friggin' terrible.

everybody cool out now

I was working near altamont speedway last month I was wondering what it was like that day the stones were there. Great post.

“Who’s fighting and what for?”….

Brothers and sisters, brothers and sisters…

That's my favorite bit from the whole documentary. My crew in high school would try to outdo each other with the best Kief imitations we could muster. "If that cat right there doesn't quit it, man ... we're splitting, alright!"

lol

The killer festival

Showing just how clueless they really were

it was a "perfect storm". The "last minute" change in venue triggered everything. Then it went completely downhill from there.

Angel in the wolf hat always stood out in my mind as the apex of the film.

The stones gig in San Francisco park was just totally wild. The hells angels guards were involved in numerous brawls. One guy was stabbed to death. Mick jagger called on people to cool it.

yeah
