VIDEO | Hyderabad: Addressing a press conference, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, "First of all, we had requested the Election Commission regarding the requirement of submitting 12 documents for voters whose names are not found in the 2002 electoral rolls, or whose parents' or grandparents' names are missing from those records, in order for their names to be included again in the draft voter list. Among the 12 prescribed documents, some are simply not available in Telangana... We suggested to the Election Commission that PAN cards should be included in the list because a person can vote on the basis of a PAN card. Similarly, the state government issues driving licences and food security cards, which are also accepted for voting purposes. However, the Election Commission did not accept our suggestion..."

The entire government machinery is engaged in flood relief and rehabilitation work…the timeline has been shifted by 15 days: the Election Commission has ordered that the last date for claims and objections be shifted from August 4 to August 19, and the date of final publication has been shifted from September 6 to September 21…BLOs have been instructed to collect forms from eligible voters, and side by side, we are disposing of the claims and objections…we have issued notices to 12 lakh voters whose names were found in the 2025 roll but could not be mapped with the 2002 roll. Another 46 lakh voters have logical anomalies in their details…they will not be deleted; only the entries will be corrected. Deletion will occur only in essential cases where the voter is found to be not qualified.”

In Bengal, 60 lakh people were identified as having logical discrepancies. This means that there was some issue with their details, such as their names not matching or it not being clear whether their parents were included in the previous SIR. Out of those 60 lakh people, 33 lakh were subsequently added. But when those 33 lakh voters were added following the Supreme Court’s order, the Election Commission of India challenged the addition in court in a matter involving lakhs of voters. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi asked in the files: These appeals are being filed against voters in such large numbers-who authorised them? It is being done in the name of the Election Commission of India, but who is authorising it? You need to understand that the Election Commission is not the sole responsibility of one person. There are three Election Commissioners, and the Commission functions either by consensus or by majority vote. The two other Election Commissioners clearly called this illegal, but even then, the Election Commission of India, under the direction of Gyanesh Kumar-and whoever is directing or controlling him-has continued carrying out these illegal actions for months. It has been going on for a long time, for nearly one and a half years, since the SIR began..."
