AF1 is a flying fortress, built to withstand a nuclear attack. Trump was probably shorting out.
They have to dump fuel before landing again. It’s normal.

@peopleschampdon Not true. I was on a flight from JFK to Prague and we turned around over nova scotia. We didn’t dump fuel. The captain came on the com and told us that sort of this meant that we would see emergency vehicles near the runway but not to be alarmed as it’s just part of the process
@cwebbonline Different flights carry different amounts of fuel. It also depends on the type of plane being flown. Every plane has a maximum landing weight.

Pilots will often go into a holding pattern while they troubleshoot an issue. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
Maybe Trump needed a dump and the toilets on AF1 couldn’t handle it.
@JenniferNYC Sometimes you try and fix the issue if you can, in which case you’d fly in a holding pattern near the airport (in the event you don’t succeed and need to land). That’s the only thing I can think of, but I say that as a small fixed wing pilot…
I don’t wish death on Trump, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he thought he was having a medical event and the crew couldn’t decide what to do. Was or wasn’t he dying? Where could they take him that would cause the least amount of scandal? Was it a fart or heart attack?
