Electrons moving through a magnetic field can become trapped between two strong magnetic regions. As they approach either end, they slow down, turn around and travel back the other way. The glowing surface below shows the same motion in another way, revealing where the electrons are and how fast... show more

This is called Magnetic Mirror Effect. See

Persistent structure refusing zero contrasts. A population of electrons remains confined between two stronger-field regions and does not relax into a uniform or vanishing distribution. Charged particles spiral along field lines while their magnetic moment μ=mv⊥2/(2B) stays approximately constant (the first adiabatic invariant). As a particle drifts into higher BB, v∥ falls to keep total energy fixed; when v∥ reaches zero the particle reverses. Only particles whose pitch angle lies inside the loss cone escape. The rest bounce indefinitely between the two mirror points, so the trapped density and the associated phase-space contrast persist for many bounce periods. The glowing surface in the animation is a projected map of that trapped population (local density weighted by parallel speed). Because the loss cone continuously removes only a subset of trajectories while the mirrored particles return, the map never flattens to zero contrast; it evolves but retains coherent structure.

So cool

They can??? May I ask what this is called or if you have a moment to link or explain it to me please?

It's called magnetic mirror effect. For more details:

Fascinating! That’s going to take a bit for me to read through and comprehend I appreatiate the help immensely, thank you so much!!!

that's a magnetic mirror, and earth has a giant one. electrons in the van allen belts bounce back and forth between the north and south poles the same way

Could you provide some more explanatory diagrams for the two regions where a strong magnetic field is observed?

what about Mario X Skyrim?

Good post Mathelirium, Should we trap electrons in a magnetic field or should we just finish converting the aether into electric current?…. If you trap them they can still get away… If you harness them you own them…

Beautiful work! I like it! It makes me think about spins seen by Nottale in his theory #ScaleRelativity.

Hey Mathelirium, just following up on the DM I sent about our annual AI & technology feature. We picked you for your work making math, physics and ML come alive through visual simulations — would be great to connect.

@mathelirium you seeing the Strouhol number fluidic oscillating plug & relativistic dust field in there?

does Richard Feynman or someone similar have a lecture on the phenomenon shown in this post. It would be nice to actually learn about how what I'm seeing connects to any underlying underlying physics, rather than just be shown some (admittedly impressive) graphics and a few sentences that barely describe the surface level of what's going on here. thank you kindly.

@grok do they slow down in this field? How come we can't ever truly make the field disappear

These images are so cool, instructive

DNA 🧬 Snap us in half and half our so called ancestors appear. Break us apart and you have the planets entire roster. Not to worry, the ghost plant pot is there, looking right at you. But thinking backwards in place for moving forward, blindfolded without a walking stick, in the jungle all alone, is a preferred consensus these days. Gotta love the tenacity though 😬 Grandpa Simpson rant aside, this is the stress reaction. As above so below. 🔥 the frequencies 🙌🏻
