Baby Kirkja is so adorable, but the fact that the Toledo Zoo continues to breed elephants is a disgrace. Zoos are torture chambers for elephants. It is scientifically impossible to keep an elephant in a zoo without it suffering greatly. This is why experts who do not benefit from zoo income have pleaded with zoos over the years to stop breeding elephants and to move their elephant populations to accredited sanctuaries. At a minimum, all zoos should stop breeding elephants. But elephants are the big moneymaker, so I don’t see them doing it until legislation is passed. Who has the courage to introduce this legislation?

Every sighting is a celebration, tinged with trepidation for their future. Our work is focused on the protection of not only elephants, like this monumental fellow and his side-kick, but the habitats they call home. Taking a 360 approach to conservation, through interconnected programs, we are on the ground — and in the air — everyday, keeping watch over nature's largest living land mammal. To those that support us, thank you for helping keep more elephants safe.

After Gwede Mantashe told young South Africans they were too lazy to search for jobs, many of them submitted their CVs to various companies to demonstrate their commitment to job hunting. At Rainbow Chickens, a man came out and ripped their CVs in front of them. Some believe this behavior occurs because many companies prefer to hire undocumented migrants, allowing them to underpay and exploit workers without fear of being reported to the Department of Employment and Labour.
