This is a big deal! Jensen said in the CES keynote yesterday that he expects open source models to catch up to proprietary models this year in a number of categories. Here we are 👀 There are honestly so many things to say. First of all, I want to thank you all for the insane support, both here and on Twitch. Sometimes I stop and think about how far I’ve come… and if you’ve seen the video about my past, you already know. TCGs mean way more to me than just a game, they literally saved me. And you saved me. My only goal was to win this tournament. I didn’t care about glory or prizes, I had to win it for my Mom This is for her. I’m sure she saw everything that happened today and how many people were there for me ❤️ I want to thank all my friends there are way too many to tag. Usually I’m the one giving them props 🤣 Shoutout to my sister as well, who “blessed” me by saying: “You have a 1 in a million chance to win this tournament.” Well… it was the right timeline 🦋 The final was literally the one I’ve always dreamed of. I’ve always joked with Mirko about playing a final against him, and like I told you, he’s one of the reasons I even started playing TCGs. It really feels closing the circle. I also want to talk about what happened in Top 4. It’s two full days of playing, a lot of pressure, and an insanely high level. You all saw the names in this top cut playing at that level for so long is not easy at all. And I’ll say this clearly: Mirko is one of the most genuine people I know. What happened on feature was an UNINTENTIONAL misplay. It happens everyone has made mistakes like that at least once. Don’t be too harsh, there are bigger problems than that. Microsoft did it again! Speech AI models have a major limitation. They slice long recordings into tiny chunks, lose track of who's speaking, and forget all context halfway through. This is exactly what Microsoft's VibeVoice solves. It's an open-source family of frontier voice AI models for both speech recognition and speech generation. Here's what it can do: > VibeVoice-ASR processes up to 60 minutes of audio in a single pass. No chunking. It outputs structured transcriptions with who spoke, when they spoke, and what they said. > You can feed it custom hotwords like names, technical jargon, or domain-specific terms. The model uses them to significantly improve accuracy on specialized content. > VibeVoice-TTS generates up to 90 minutes of multi-speaker speech with up to 4 distinct speakers. Natural turn-taking, emotional expression, all in one pass. > VibeVoice-Realtime is a 0.5B streaming TTS model with ~300ms first-audio latency. Small enough to deploy practically anywhere. Are open source models catching up to proprietary models? We’ve looked back at 3 years of Arena’s data to show how the race has evolved. For comparison, we’ve taken the top 20% of the models and uncovered the following: - Before mid 2024: The gap was between 100-150 points - In the second half of 2024, the gap rapidly narrowed to ~50 points - This was driven by the fact that proprietary models have not significantly improved between early 2023 and November 2024 - hovering around the 1350 score for the top 20% of proprietary models - Then since Jan 2025, we saw a parallel improvement in both proprietary and open source models - Meaning that for the last ~14 months the gap stayed steady at around 50-60 points For context, 50 points is the gap between the 1st and 20th place in the Overall leaderboard Today, proprietary models take up the first 20 spots on the Text Arena, with Anthropic, Google DeepMind , xAI and OpenAI leading in the rankings. The top open source models are ranked #20 (GLM-5 by Z.ai ), #23 (Kimi-K2.5-Thinking by Kimi.ai ) and #27 (Qwen3.5-397b-a17b by Qwen ).

4 years ago we were on the brink of AI becoming proprietary and centralized, when OpenAI kept GPT3 closed and VCs started dumping money on researchers. From fully open science, to fully closed, in a matter of months. It was scary, and 1,000+ leading researchers and scientists banded together to show the world that it was possible to do the same work in the open, and build an ecosystem that benefits everyone. That was the BigScience Research Workshop BLOOM project, and it put us back on track to open science, starting with forward-thinking organizations like Meta releasing OPT. Look at us now. Open models have not only caught up, they're state of the art now. Not just LLMs, but models for document AI, speech to text, text to speech, generating images and more. We're closing in on 2 million open weight models on Hugging Face. Thanks for the reminder Thomas Wolf .
