Elle Macpherson refused chemo, radiotherapy, herceptin and hormonal therapy for breast cancer 7 years ago

She had DCIS, which is Stage 0—a pre-cancer. She didn't need all that overtreatment doctor pushed for, probably didn't even need the lumpectomy. I've had it for 7 years with no treatment, sticking with active surveillance.

I don’t think she did. no doctor would recommend chemo for DCIS. She describes it as intraductal (as opposed to intralobular)

This story is so dangerous and should never have been published. One article I read said she rejected surgery and did not mention a lumpectomy it also did not mention what stage her cancer was. Just awful.

If she had DCIS (which she says she does) that chemo shouldn't even have been an option!

She rejected “conventional” treatment? No she didn’t. Surgery is “conventional “ nit complementary or holistic. And we don’t know what stage she was.And 20+ doctors advised her? Hm20? I saw one! She happens to be selling a book and owns a “wellness” company. Call me a cynic….

Really appreciate you posting about this. As an MBC patient I totally depend on the combination of drugs, eating well and exercising to keep me ‘well’ but hear of so many people who spend a fortune on supplements that don’t work

She had DCIS, and hormone therapy and/or radiation are commonly prescribed options. Localized low grade DCIS may be cured with lumpectomy alone. It is unlikely she had high grade DCIS. She was fortunate to have all her disease removed, and that the accrued somatic mutations in the remaining duct system have not caused her any further problems. Her holistic approach may have made her feel better and possibly helped her immune system through stress management, but in the cancer trenches, it had no significant bearing on her course. She rolled the dice with excision alone and won.
