The F-35 design was broken at the requirements level, because it was required to be too many things to too many people. This made it an expensive & complex jack of all trades, master of none. Success was never in the set of possible outcomes. And manned fighter jets are obsolete in the age of drones anyway. Will just get pilots killed.

Actually it can. Most production fighter jets/military aircraft can be 'droned' (i.e. install electronics in place of the pilot so it could be flown autonomously or by a pilot on the ground in a 'simulator' matching the jet's controls, weapons system, monitors, etc.). We did it with the F-86 Sabre, F-4 Phantom, F-16 Falcon, and others. Losing a pilot(s) is expensive.

@elonmusk Even a 747 can make air condensation from low pressure / moist air. I would prefer not to be in that jet when a thousand drones swarm out of nowhere
