My theory of all this .. It all comes down to how a person views government power. If you believe that the state is the higher power and grants you rights to live under it, you end up on the left. If you believe that the government only has power because the people grant it, you end up on the right. Looking at it this way, you can easily understand why those on the left think transparency is not required and we, the peasants, have no right to question it.
