It's fascinating how such a fundamental human function, to reproduce has become so challenging.

As soon as people start to notice they can choose something else than having a family, it’s over.. or at least it seems so

There is a reason people stop having babies. It's economic uncertainty and fear of poverty and displacement in the future. And what causes this? Stagnant GDP growth. When an economy grows slowly or not at all, people feel financially fragile. They lack faith that their jobs will continue to be there. They give up hope of higher pay in the future or promotions, and they find it difficult or impossible to save. When this happens, they often react by economizing, and one of the main ways they do this is having fewer babies. This was the story of Europe after WW2, caused by the large welfare state put in place in many European nations, which required high government spending and stunted GDP growth. Today, GDP growth is terribly anemic in Europe and in Japan, all due to the same reason, freakishly large public spending. The US is in better shape, but rapidly going in the wrong direction. Elon should start talking about the REASON for low birth rates: LAVISH GOVERNMENT SPENDING ON SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAMS.

That would be a good thing.
