All these things are true and awesome and I can’t wait. I really hope AI makes hiding the truth and good data extremely difficult. Otherwise we don’t really need AI. But at the same time I would get my haircut by a robot but most of the time I’d prefer a person a really really good person.

What differentiates us from the "caveman"? Two important things: population growth allowing for random geniuses to arise in the population and knowledge distribution through books, movies, and the internet.

A hive mind of AI data centers networked in a distributed fashion, need not control robots or result in a 'terminator future'. They could control or influence all financial operations, all media and communications - everything done with computers. You wouldn't even realize it.

It always amazes me that one of the greatest tool makers in modern human history still can't seem to grasp that human intelligence does not end at the confines of organic organ structures but extends far into their surrounding environment via their tool creations. This was true of Homo erectus and it is still true today with modern humans and their AI.
