It is both a very exciting time we live in and a somewhat scary time. We never know whether we are doing the exact right things for humanity or if a lot of mistakes are being made along the way. Only time will tell.

Space is inspiring in theory, but treating a multi-planetary future as something that “makes life worth living” right now feels disconnected from reality. The resources, talent, and attention poured into Mars timelines and Starship could be solving far more immediate human problems — clean water, energy poverty, disease, climate adaptation — that actually affect billions of people today. Becoming a space-faring civilization is a multi-century project at best, not a near-term source of meaning. Until the basic systems that keep civilization running on Earth are far more resilient, chasing the stars risks becoming an expensive distraction rather than a genuine solution.

The spacefaring vision is ultimately about giving technological progress a bigger purpose beyond solving today’s problems. You and @10_beth_ are the two accounts I most enjoy following.

Musk framing a spacefaring civilization as the thing that makes life worth looking forward to is his whole thesis in a few lines.

Yes. People need... Purpose Goals Projects Hobbies When you don't need or want to do anything you will wither and die. That's why people born into wealth usually fuck shit up. 1st Gen works HARD 2nd Gen builds on that work 3rd Gen is lazy as fuck cuz they can be

That’s a powerful way to look at the future 👀🚀 Progress isn’t only about fixing problems; having something ambitious to build toward can give people a reason to dream bigger.
