Elon Musk notes that the "Raptor 3 engine is… by far the best rocket engine ever made." "On liftoff, [Starship] is generating over 100 gigawatts of power. It's 20% of the US, while not exploding."

It produces enough thrust to levitate an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer.

And, best of all, it runs on an electric battery… 😂😂😂

But still not reliably all firing. Wonder what the next steps are to lock that down

Raptor 3: The Most Advanced Rocket Engine Ever Raptor 3 is SpaceX’s latest evolution — the best rocket engine ever made. Key upgrades: • No external heat shield (full regenerative cooling) • Record thrust-to-weight ratio • Simplified design with fewer parts for faster production & higher reliability Elon Musk: “Raptor 3 engine is a very advanced engine, by far the best rocket engine ever made.” It powers Starship V3/V4 toward 10,000+ tons thrust and rapid reusability — the key to Mars.

Elon Musk: Raptor 3 is kind of alien technology “Even industry experts, when we showed a picture of the Raptor 3, said, ‘That engine is not complete’” “Well, here’s the engine - not complete - firing at a level of efficiency that has never been achieved before” Raptor 3 is a massive leap forward in rocket engine design • No base heat shield required, saving huge mass and improving reliability • Fuel leaks are no longer catastrophic, they safely burn off in open plasma • Dramatically higher payload capacity and efficiency • Simpler design with fewer parts, but far more capability • Secondary fluid systems and electronics are integrated directly into the engine structure

Elon Musk on Raptor 3 Engine: "Raptor 3 is designed to require no basic heat shield, saving a lot of mass on the bottom and actually improving reliability, so that if there is, for example, a small fuel leak from the Raptor engine, it will simply leak into the existing flaming plasma and not really matter, whereas a fuel leak when the engines are contained in a box is a very scary thing indeed. It will be a massive increase in payload capability, in engine efficiency and in reliability. So this is really a revolutionary engine. Raptor 3 is really, I'd say, kind of alien technology, rocket engine. So in order to make the engine like that, we had to simplify so many parts of the design, incorporate secondary fluid circuits and electronics in the structure of the engine itself, so everything is contained and protected. It is a marvel of engineering."

SpaceX’s new Raptor 3 is the most advanced rocket engine ever built Key upgrades over earlier Raptors: • Nearly double the thrust compared to Raptor 1 • About 4× cheaper to manufacture, dramatically lowering launch costs • A simplified design that saves over 40 metric tons of mass per Starship launch • Durable enough to eliminate the need for an external heat shield, reducing complexity and maintenance Raptor 3 is designed to fly on Starship Version 3, with first flight targeted for early 2026

Who makes more sense: AOC or the Elon Musk's Starship Raptor engine? AOC is talking facts, hmm, interesting.

Elon Musk: I'm not sure people totally understand how big Starship is. “I'm not sure people totally understand. Starship is the largest flying object ever made. This thing will be over 5,000 tons of weight on liftoff. It's going to go straight up with 5,000 tons. This is much heavier than any aircraft, by far. No aircraft comes close to this weight. And it's going straight up. Aircraft can't go straight up. It will have more than twice the thrust of a Saturn V. It's a big rocket.” The Joe Rogan Experience, February 11, 2021

Elon Musk: Starship will demonstrate full reusability in 2026, catching both the booster and the ship ---- “[Starship] Version 3, which is a gigantic upgrade, has Raptor 3 and pretty much everything changes on the rocket. Version 3 might have some initial tuning pains because it's such a radical redesign. But it's capable of over 100 tons to orbit, fully reusable. Unless we have major setbacks, SpaceX will demonstrate full reusability next year, catching both the booster and the ship, and being able to deliver over 100 tons to a useful orbit.” Source: Elon Musk

The most important upgrade to Starship isn't a new Raptor engine or a bigger booster. It's hidden beneath the launch pad. SpaceX is quietly changing how the world's largest rocket is fueled, and it could be the breakthrough that makes rapid reusability possible. #SpaceX #Starship #RocketScience #Cryogenics #Starbase

.Elon Musk’s reaction to Starship Flight 5 booster catch. Flight 6 is just over a week away with another booster catch, but also with new objectives like the first ever Raptor engine in-space relight. If the relight is successful, it’ll enable orbital Starship payload missions.
