Elon Musk’s Starship exploded after splashing down in the Pacific Ocean Before that, it deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites into orbit. The spacecraft made a controlled splashdown north of Hawaii, after which it overturned and exploded due to the ignition of residual fuel.

Tipping over and popping after a controlled splashdown is how these test ships normally end until the catch is ready. The actual job was orbit plus 26 Starlink V3s out, and it did both.

This isn't a random explosion in failure. This is an RUD. A "Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly." Controlled ones like this, are typically handled via the Flight Termination System (FTS). There are multiple executions for this, depending on altitude etc. #SpaceX #Starship

Orbit and 26 sats first, then residual fuel taking the ship after splashdown. The mission did its job before the overturn.

All it will ever do is launch Starlink satelites.
