EM Bypass stretch will look remarkable 10 years from now. Many high profile skyscraper projects are currently under construction along this stretch including The Trump Tower, Z Residences, PS Anassa. We need atleast 4-5 more stretches like this across Kolkata. Kolkata has the 3rd highest number of skyscrapers in... the country after Mumbai and Hyderabad but we need to actively build more to cater to the increasing population demands.show more

@udmawb @GoWestBengal EM Bypass could become Kolkata’s Golf Course Road equivalent. There needs to be an effort to uplift the roads and surroundings. Private players are doing the heavylifting right now, municipality also needs to play its part.

@udmawb @GoWestBengal Affordable housing needs to be built. Uber expensive luxury housing will always have developers vying to construct. Sustainable, affordable housing seems to have taken a backseat. Shouldn't that be a priority too?

My thinking is sort of the opposite. We need to find a way to get people becoming rich. Once they're rich, they can afford these posh areas. That generally happens through jobs and growth of businesses in the city. Sustainable development is needed but unless the size of the cake grows fast, the state exchequer will be stretched thin to continuously provide for people.

If we want to stop the brain drain, keep hold of our best talents, pull talent based on merit here, we need to seriously reevaluate whether the old world is generating enough revenue sitting in prime locations in the city. Nostalgia is good but keeping hold of our future generations is extremely important for Bengalis as an ethnicity. And practically speaking, it cannot be done through nostalgia, we need to provide them better salaries here.
