If Westerners had so much empathy, we wouldn't have seen the wave of colonization and mass conversion by hook or crook. We lack money. Civic sense will follow. When the West was poor, it was a wild wild west. A person is never dirty, ugly, or insane. He is just poor.

As a South Indian, I agree with it 100%. It's a fact because civic sense is cultural, and unfortunately we don’t have that healthy culture in here, also we are not going to have it in the next 100 years for sure.

Nope this is not it. You think people in the west have empathy? It's all about education and some discipline. The government might have some flaws as well but ultimately it comes down to the public to take care of the public property.

I don’t agree that Indians lack empathy as it’s individual nature and can’t be generalized. A strict system and education system can maybe help

No, i dont think civic sense comes from empathy. It comes from moderate wealth, egalitarianism (culture of shame for sloven behaviour), and strong militaristic history (strong military history instills disciplined cultural habits).

"They grow without empathy for their own people" 💔 As heartbreaking it is , sadly that's the reality. I myself couldn't have explained it better. Every single sentence is on point. 🔥

Load of 💩 Indians can be amazingly empathetic and concerned about others and can be sometimes cruel like all people To have civic sense you need cities and planning

Nop. It’s just your brown complex. West used to be dirty and disgusting when they were at our developmental stage Our folk bring the rural ethos to cities - soil absorbed all food and animals eat all vegetable peels. In cities nothing eats the western plastic packaging

I am from assam and as an indian i totally agree with your statement that the civic sense is absent in many people in our country. But would you believe a few literate people can try to change this through following the civic sense instead of blaming to other's .

It will come automatically if cost of cleaning increases and there is shortage of manpower accompanied by hefty fines.

We can’t sit around hoping for empathy. “Civic sense isn’t a rule”. It needs to be. It is very much quantifiable. We need more authority in making and implementing these rules. Severe rules with severe punishments.

The government must enforce strict at any cost, corruption-free governance, impose heavy fines equally on rich and poor, involve students and communities in awareness rallies. With consistent effort, visible results can be achieved in 5 years.
