PPP Lahore and Civil Society Demand Protection for Women and Children LAHORE: PPP Lahore and civil society representatives, at a press conference, called for stronger protection of women and children and effective implementation of existing laws. PPP Lahore General Secretary Dr Ayesha Shaukat said women face exploitation even at police stations and urged the Punjab government to focus on reducing crimes against women and children. She said the government should consult elected representatives and officials before taking major decisions and prioritize education, healthcare and protection for women, particularly in rural areas. Zarmin Mazari highlighted poverty and deprivation in southern Punjab, saying millions of children remain out of school and women lack adequate access to education and healthcare. Sabahat Rafiq said women’s protection is a constitutional right, not a concession, and questioned why women remain unsafe despite existing laws. Other speakers stressed that legislation alone is not enough and called for strict implementation of laws and exemplary punishment for those involved in violence and abuse against women and children.
