Capitalism plunged people into deep poverty initially, by excluding people from the land. The "industrial revolution" was worked by destitute people struggling for enough food to not be starving. London 1820s was horrific. The stuff of Charles Dickens nightmares. See Enclosure:

The Industrial Revolution, coupled with capitalism (and the invention of fertilizers), pulled more people put of poverty than anything else in world history AND prevented millions from starving or dying from disease caused by malnutrition
