Presumably, the United States used “Shahed-like” (Low-Cost Unmanned Aerial System) Loitering Munition to strike targets in Venezuela on January 3 during Operation “Absolute Resolve.” In footage published by netizens, a distinctive engine sound can be heard before impact, similar to the noise produced by Shahed-136 or Geran-2 drones. If this is the case, then Venezuela has seen the first combat use of a new type of American loitering munition that has only recently entered service with the U.S. military.

Jericho Trumpets The "Jericho Trumpets" were sirens fitted to the German Luftwaffe's Ju 87 Stuka dive bombers during World War II. Mounted on the fixed landing gear legs, they had small propellers that spun rapidly in the airstream during steep dives, generating a rising, terrifying wailing sound. The intent was purely psychological,to induce panic and terror in enemy troops and civilians on the ground. Probably the noise was a combination of some things: the engine note in a dive, air rushing through the dive brakes, around the spats and perhaps the chin scoop and angular airframe.

A tour of the post-processing features in my WebGPU engine. Chaining global passes like blur, bloom, and pixelate, on top of a disturb pipeline with its own options: distortion, black and white, lighten, darken, noise, RGB split, and more. It also supports layer and plane UV isolation. Planes can have optional shadows and rounded borders. Behind-the-scenes split view shows the raw pass vs final composite. Built from scratch with the WebGPU JavaScript API. Lightweight, minimal code, 0 dependencies, modular custom components 🧩. Next, vertex work and finish the MTSDF generator I’m building in Rust. ✨

This is Shahed drone but not the same ‘world famous’ Delta wing Shahed. This is Shahed-101, a loitering munition drone that attacked the fuel storage site in Erbil. Shahed-101 struck a Castrol linked warehouse at Sardar Group facility. How is ‘101’ different from ‘136’? Shahed-101, a 26 KG drone uses electric motor, so it does not make noise like ‘136’ or Arash drones. It can go upto 1500 km with 8 KG warhead. On the other hand, a 200 KG Shahed-136 uses a piston engine and it can go upto 2500 km with 50 KG warhead. So Shahed-101 is a new weapon in this war with low cost saturation tactics against million dollar interceptors. They can hit Israel.

On the 16th of March 2025, Earshot was contacted by activists in Serbia to investigate the potential use of sonic weapons by the government on a crowd of protestors as they were holding a silent vigil for the victims of the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse. Earshot received 12 videos that document the moments where a weapon was allegedly used against the protestors. 4 of these videos contain a sound consistent with the noise produced by a Vortex Ring Gun or Vortex Cannon. As this weapon pushes gas out of its cylinder at speeds of 185mph, its expulsion produces a howling noise which has been compared to a jet engine, along with vortex rings that may be ionized. This would create electromagnetic interference with devices such as hearing aids, corroborating reports made by witnesses at the protest. Should this be the vortex cannon, these recordings would be more than 700m away. At this distance the combustion of the weapon is no longer audible; only the distinct whistling sound of the pressure wave as it travels away from the shooter location and towards the crowd can be heard, causing mass panic. As Earshot is looking to further investigate this incident, we ask anyone with video footage from that night that captures the specific sound that can be heard in this post to get in touch with us.

The life of a guy who tried to mine Bitcoin at home: • Watched one YouTube video and said "how hard can it be" • Bought an S19 off some guy on Telegram (receipt was a thumbs up emoji) • Plugged it into a regular outlet and tripped every breaker in the house within 11 seconds • Wife asked "what is that noise" approximately 47 times in the first hour • Moved it to the garage in January. Garage is now 104 degrees. In Iowa. • Electric bill went from $180 to $520. Called the utility company thinking it was a mistake. It was not a mistake. • Dog refuses to go in the garage • Kids think there's a jet engine in the house • Machine went down at 3 AM. Googled "ASIC repair near me." Results: pain. • Shipped it to some repair place in Shenzhen. Got it back 11 weeks later. Different machine. Probably. • Calculated actual profit after power, repairs, and the marriage counseling.
