I loved America even when Biden and Obama were in office. You don't have to pretend America's perfect. Don't get me started on the HUGE MISTAKES we've made in our 250 years. But when only 29% of Democrats are proud to be American, that's a huge problem. This Independence Day, don't let it just be about hot dogs and fireworks. Gather your family and remind them what this Republic actually stands for. Read the FIRST draft of the Declaration of Independence. It'll blow your mind, especially if you're a Democrat. VIDEO: The firsthand accounts from people in our group that were at the Celebrate St. Louis fireworks show at the Arch grounds and walked back through downtown to their apartments do not match the narrative put forth by the SLMPD and the Mayor. It was not, as the Mayor claimed, “a small group of individuals” that caused problems. It was large groups of young people that began gathering in and around Kiener Plaza long before the Celebrate St. Louis fireworks even started. Many in the group were openly carrying backpacks full of illegal fireworks. And the problems started immediately after the fireworks show at the Arch ended. Young people were shooting fireworks into the crowd as they departed the Arch grounds and people were running for cover. As the hour got later, an arsenal of illegal fireworks was deployed around downtown, and people were using fireworks as weapons. Predictably, some of the conflict led to gunfire and shooting victims. The same trouble occurred last year after the July 4 Arch fireworks show. SLMPD admitted that they were unprepared and didn’t anticipate the chaos and lawlessness that developed. They vowed to do better this year. They didn’t. Things were arguably worse. City leadership and SLMPD continue to minimize this continued violence downtown and refuse to be accountable for addressing these problems. The police response, based on multiple firsthand observations, was a complete failure. It was a failure of leadership and planning. And their statement in response did nothing to accept responsibility. We acknowledge that staffing is short and the demands are great, especially on the holiday, but we can’t invite 50,000 guests downtown and then allow their safety to be threatened to the point that they vow never to come back. This is an existential problem for downtown and for the City of St. Louis. Try something different – take responsibility, be accountable, admit mistakes, ask for help. The people, the landscapes, the food and of course, President Trump. This 4th of July is going to be off the charts and if you are lucky enough to still be visiting us….enjoy every moment.
