Great show. Yizo-Yizo was something else. Fantastic camera angles and colour themes for dramatic effect. Sadly, the young men of the time watching the show learned the wrong lessons. They chose uAction noChester over uJavas noThemba. Regardless, great stuff.

I hear this chat, the delivery was probably too heavy and exaggerated the wrong parts.

@kunenearts If we can go back to 1999 when it was released would you still feel the same , A lot has Changed now we in 2026 That time and things that were happening during that time and now in some part of our country I don’t think it was Exaggerated

@SoupLorrd "Exaggerated" in this instance is a stand in for 'Emphasis'. They did a great job at making gangsterism look appealing to the youth is it often does. But you're right, it was a product of it's time.

It dealt with matters that actually happened ko kasi

To the core. It was ahead of its time at that as well.

I hate how shows now are superficial and don’t deal with the matters at hand

It was the best series ever

It touched on so many issues. This show was supposed to wake us up.

Someone who grew up in Soweto. This was so real and relatable. Peak entertainment 🔥.

You grew up in Soweto? You were really in the thick of it 🔥

Hahaha yes! But it’s still my safe place 😂

Brilliant, cannot fault the actors for putting great performances as villains. Many educational matters... Taxi drivers dating school girls, Bra Gibb is literally one this fools in the Madlanga commission, etc. Its not all about Chester and Papa Action.

This!!!! Bro, there was a guy there just dealing with PTSD while being bullied.

Influenced kasi the nastiest way ever!

We definitely did see a spike in bad behavior among students. I think around that time, we were very new to television programs that were targeting the youth.

It was eye-opening to many daily life issues, but people didn't take notes

Facts, there was so much to unpack here.

It was showing us the reality’s on the grounds back then🙃

Bro! People were just not ready to face that reality.

She says it best👇🏿entertainment is seldom mere fiction, there’s always an element of reality 👌🏿

Last time we had acting and script writing synergy on our tv screens

Greatest show to hit our TV screens while growing up! Name a show that was better

@Gee_Molefe The best to ever come out in south africa i wish it came out last year

I’m grateful at home they didn’t allow me to watch this

Do you think you would’ve been influenced by it?

Definitely ..

The show was ahead of its time, very relatable and opened up uncomfortable discussions, in a black society, which was still very much conservative. Sadly narrow minded viewers only observed the violence in the storyline.

I'm split with the show. It shows the reality that we deal with in our communities, but it also can influence young boys negatively as well.

@BurgerBigk1630 Just young boys?

The likes of Chester, Papa Action are dangerous characters for young boys to look up to. Many parents where I'm from didn't allow their kids to watch it.

I watched this show as a kid when it premiered and again as an adult and realized ukuthi it’s actually very traumatic loluhlelo.. it was more jarring for me as an adult than when I was a kid. It was necessary for its time, I guess, but yoh! 🙆♀️ Mthembu held that school TOGETHER

Watching it as an adult I could only concluded that it needed more dialogue around it. Dialogue to unpack what was really going on in our communities

True depiction off township reality in those days we saw these characters in real life.

Incredible and way ahead of it's time and I believe if it replayed, it would be a disaster to society coz this generation is way too impressionable and easily influenced.

First time i saw Bomb work. Made sure they deliver on the sensationalism and trended before even "trending" was a thing. I respect media work that can set off tongues wagging pre-social media era.

@RSphiso khuluma

We literally started sniffing stuff at school coz of this show & A students were ridiculed bo miss what what

The best

My partner absolutely despises it

@ZunguMthoko She probably has solid reasons. It came in hot and heavy a little too early.

A brilliant and timeless show that influenced how township stories are told. Abo Gaz'lam, Zone 14 etc babuya kule show in terms of communicating the modern township narrative thru the camera lens

We were banned from watching it at home. Tried watching it again in my adulthood and understood why we were banned. Great show. It's just too much. 😭 😂 💔

They were ahead of their time especially with what's going on with our crime.

Classic, Masterpiece, Top 3 of the Best South African series of all time.

This was the best written drama we have ever had in the country

It was way ahead of its time.

Very compelling and an almost true reflection of the township environment and education, still relevant today.

Yesses. Top show. But caused a lot of havoc in black community schools. Everyone wanted to be Chester or Papa Action. Even me, I wanted to be Papa Action. 😭😭 Graffiti on walls, carving on schools desks, “PAPA ACTION WUZ HERE!”

1. YIZO YIZO 2. MAPANTSULA 3. HIJACK STORIES 4. JERUSALEMA 5. SOON COMES NIGHT Nb : 1, 2 and 5 available on @NetflixSA TOP 5 ALL TIME SA MOVIES/SERIES

S1 Chester was so good, so natural in his character they actually ruined the series by changing him for Dumisani respectfully

very educational like soul city but the message was lost in translation. this show messed up half the gents that didn't have father figures in their lives

As great and classic as it is, it messed up the minds of the youth. We had a Chester and Papa action in my school🤦🏾♂️ lucky me they came from my street so I was cool, but other kids suffered.

Fucked up a whole generation!!!!!!!!!! I don’t even know how I survived it! I used to keep apples in my kerimor bag
