Equality of opportunity vs equality of outcome. The first is the only responsibility of the law. The rest is up to the individual and/or their community.

It is pointing out a very important distinction about equity, which in principle would be raising people up, however, in practice, it is much easier to tear others down then to invest the resources needed to raise people up to the same level as others.

I want more Sowell cartoons. 🥹 It's depressing that in all my years in college, his name never once came up. I had to find out about him on my own.

As Sowell brilliantly puts it: "If there is no equality of outcomes among people born to the same parents and raised under the same roof, why should equality of outcomes be expected—or assumed—when conditions are far less comparable?" Not only does Equity ≠ Equality but they cannot coexist. The Equity movement is based on race despite the true inequality being wealth. Whites get knocked down for generational wealth despite most not benefiting from it. Just results in kicking people that are already down and then mocking or calling them racist if they dare question it.

I've never seen this series before, but I would absolutely love an animated kids show like this! Thomas Sowell teaching children important life lessions, in easy to understand language and concepts. Amazing!

Great lesson from Dr. Sowell. Even equality of opportunities is a fantasy. The reason is simple: some people create their own opportunities from scratch (e.g. inventing something new), others prepare and seize opportunities they find (e.g. taking advantage of a newly available technology to implement an old idea or pursue a dream), yet others do nothing with the opportunities they come across. Already there is inequality at the onset. Now can these three categories arrive at an equal outcome? No. Expecting them to is naive and unrealistic. Forcing by social engineering is dangerous.
