The fact that this is even necessary is proof of the abysmal failure that is the Texas grid. It is unbelievable how much money we still pay for our monthly “electricity lottery.” Will the power go out today? Who knows! Can ERCOT be trusted? Not at all!

The demand for energy across all of Texas is outpacing the state’s generation capacity. In load shed events, all ERCOT members must participate in rolling power outages. I want to be very clear that this is a statewide issue and not a result of generation issues with CPS Energy.

Extreme cold weather induced new demand peaks, constrained access to gas, and contributed to record-setting days for renewable generation. The prices on the map reflect these conditions and the actions of grid operators to balance systems and keep the lights on!
