The Oromo Prosperity Party–aligned head of IGAD Secretariat, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, has demonstrated such deep-seated hate toward Amhara that he has employed Cherinet Hariffo, a social media activist who previously and openly insulted Amhara people online using genocidal slurs such as “neftegna” during the northern Ethiopia war. It is important to recall that this same term was used publicly by the President of the Oromia Region, Shimelis Abdisa, shortly after Abiy Ahmed Ali 🇪🇹 came to power, when he stated: “we have broken the Neftegna/Amhara in the same place where they broke us for 150 years.” Following this speech, violence and genocidal attacks against Amhara living in Oromia sharply intensified.

This is not a border dispute. It is a sermon. A Hamas leader on a Gaza stage tells seven million Palestinians abroad to stop warming up. There are Jews everywhere, he says. Attack every Jew on Earth. Slaughter them. Kill them. With Allah’s help. The crowd is not a war room. It is a public. Hamas did not invent that sentence. Hamas is but one franchise of it. Islamic Jihad says the same thing with a different logo. Hezbollah wraps it in Khomeini and the language of “the Zionist entity.” The Houthis put “death to Israel, curse the Jews” on a flag and call it governance. The regime in Tehran funds the network and calls the Jewish state a tumor. Different uniforms. Same theology. For them, Jewish sovereignty is an insult to Allah, and Jewish lives outside the land are not off-limits. That is why “from the river to the sea” is not a housing policy, and why October 7 was not an accident of occupation. The target list in this clip is not a soldier at a checkpoint. It is Jews as such, wherever they are. Once the enemy is a people, not a government, there is no ceasefire that satisfies the idea. There is only a pause. Western coverage keeps shrinking this to one militia and one strip of coast because a regional ideology is harder to manage than a “peace process.” Factions are useful that way. To Muslims who have seen the footage of Iranians burning mosques over the past days. One point must be made clear. The Islamic Republic is not merely using religion as a political tool. It is using religion as physical cover to carry out mass murder. My friends were present the day the first mosque was burned on Friday. I asked them what exactly they burned, because it was unclear on the video. They anwsered: “A mosque. But they were shooting at people from the inside.” If you believe it is acceptable to use a mosque as a military position to fire on civilians, then my conversation with you ends here. If you do not, then you should stand with the people of Iran, who are fighting a regime that exploits your religion to commit crimes in its name. The late Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was a devout Muslim. He survived multiple assassination attempts by Islamo-Marxists and other extremists. Those experiences brought him closer to God and to Islam. This may not resonate with everyone, but he remains the single historical figure I admire and respect most, and I will not speak against what he believed in. To my fellow Iranians, please read his book: 'Answer to History'. Today, it is his son, Reza Pahlavi, whom the people have chosen as their leader. Reza Pahlavi seeks internal peace for Iran. But internal peace is impossible without regional peace. A country does not exist in isolation. It is like buying a house, renovating it, and turning it into a beautiful place to live. If the neighbouring houses are crack dens, filled with violence and instability, your house will never truly be safe, nor will it hold its value. Under his leadership, religion will be separated from the state. Not erased. Separated. And an Iran without an antagonistic Islamic regime will bring regional stability. That stability will save the lives of millions of Muslims in the years to come.

The jury refused to do the one thing that would have been appropriate and find Lindsay Clancy guilty. Patrick Clancy was in Midtown again, sunglasses on, walking like any other Sunday. Two days earlier a Massachusetts jury could not decide whether his ex-wife murdered Cora, Dawson, and Callan. Eleven jurors were ready to end it. We do not know for certain which way they were leaning, but most people think they wanted to acquit. One was the holdout. The prosecutor is expected to try the case again. So the man who already took the stand and described coming home to what his wife did to his kids now lives with the chance he will have to say it all a second time. The sidewalk photos of Patrick are not a victory lap. They are what life looks like when the system cannot finish the job and the cameras still follow the father instead of the verdict. Notice how little the press does to mourn the children. It is easier to drum up drama about a man walking on a sidewalk. A mistrial does not bring Patrick’s children back. Nothing does. Not long ago, Turkey was running a neo-Ottoman project across the Arab world. The Muslim Brotherhood was the tool. Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, the Gulf media wars. Western analysts called it one of the defining threats to the regional order. They were right! That era is over! It did not end through Western pressure. It ended because Saudi Arabia spent a decade building the economic, religious and diplomatic weight that made accommodation with Riyadh worth more to Ankara than confrontation. Investment. Mediation. Religious authority. Doors quietly closed. Soft power in its least glamorous form, and its most effective. I think we should be grateful for that. We rarely are. Turkey is now moving toward the Arab world, not away from it. On 7 August, in Mecca, Erdoğan, Mohammed bin Salman and Shehbaz Sharif signed a joint defence agreement: an attack on one is an attack on all three. It did not come from nowhere. Ankara joined a Riyadh-led maritime coalition in late July, one of fourteen founding members. The 2023 drone contract was Turkey's largest defence export deal at the time. This is the Middle East Western analysts spent fifteen years asking for. Two days before the signing, Steven A. Cook published a column in Foreign Policy arguing that strategic blunders have plagued Saudi Arabia's approach to the region. The verdict arrived before the ink was dry. Read it closely and it collapses. Cook says Riyadh has no strategy. Then he lists it: protect the economic transformation, avoid a wider war, lower tensions with Iran, stop armed factions from imposing facts by force, tie normalisation with Israel to a Palestinian state. A point of utter embarrassment and shame for many Iranians is the manner in which elements of the diaspora danced on the streets in Western capitals as bombs rained on Tehran. It is also a source for a lot of anger among Iranians in Iran who oppose the theocracy but nevertheless did not favor war and who are stunned to see some in the Diaspora being so indifferent to the suffering caused by the war. Nobody comes into my office and says they've been losing ground for years. They come in for a knee or a shoulder. But when you ask the right questions, a different story emerges. They stopped hiking because it got too hard. They gave up tennis. They hesitate before the stairs they used to take without thinking. They've quietly rearranged their lives around what they can no longer do... and most of them didn't notice it happening. This is what I think of as the narrowing of people's lives. It's not a dramatic event. Instead, it's a gradual shrinking of what's physically possible, so slow that people mistake the adaptation for a choice. It wasn't a choice. It was the slow, quiet disappearance of capacity that nobody warned them to protect. They normalized all the changes and attributed them solely to aging. The narrowing is not inevitable!! Dammit... it's not ;-)! But it requires intention to resist because the body will not hold the capacity to do things you do not train, and the losses accumulate in silence until they don't.
