🚨 Eruption has started NE of Grindavik in #Iceland 👀

The start:

Sadly occurred in one of the worst possible places and is producing huge amounts of lava with 150m plumes.

The fissure seems to be between Sylingafell and Hagafell. It is already more than 1 km long after less than an hour.

That's mafic lava. The magma must've melted the oceanic crust for a good while. And causing pressure build-up near Grindavík. I wonder if that's a newly formed volcano or a pre-existing volcano?
