Funny, several years after introducing them to Ireland, the Irish government have just realised that these e-scooters are propelled by motors.
So I can drive a moped at 16 and a car at 17 but not an e-scooter til I’m 18?? 🤯
What they’re not telling you is that your number plate has to be the same size as a motorbikes and your helmet has to be a motorbike helmet Good luck with that one lads Fucking clowns
Hard to see how legislation can include escooters and not ebikes and be legally sound. Both ebikes and escooters can be manually propelled so that distinction cant be made.
Nothing to do with health and safety, They now know how popular e scooters are for people getting to work and that, it's a dirty way of introducing another tax...
Good to know that politicians can do something when they want. Says a lot about other much more serious issues that never get touched.
It's also time to address the fact that EVs are twice as heavy as petrol or diesel cars, causing twice as much damage to roads and take up more space in carparks and narrow roads! They need to pay MORE tax not less!

I don’t have an e-scooter but having those pay tax for them is a joke. Register them and wear PPE makes sense but taxing them is just more money grabbing. Remember USC being a temporary tax yet I pay €300+ a month for USC still!!

Giving e-scooters the same legal status as cars and motorbikes is such a pure bit of Irish administrative theatre. one small transport problem arrives and the state immediately reaches for the full dramatic vocabulary.
So this means that they will be banned from using cycle lanes! That doesn't make sense if the aim is to increase their safety. Another facepalm from this useless government.
No problem with this. Anyone using a motorised vehicle on a public road should be taxed and insured.
