Ethereum Sets 2029 Target For Quantum Resistant L1 Ethereum’s Protocol Cluster has identified quantum resistance as a major research priority through December 2029. It is aimed at making Ethereum L1 quantum-resistant via improvement of several layers of its protocol. The roadmap covers execution, consensus, and data availability, alongside broader research into privacy and network state. Fast finality and zkEVM research are included among other five key areas of cross upgrade research. The Foundation believes these research priorities would contribute to Ethereum protocol development in the long run.

INTRODUCING MON PROTOCOL PARTNER - HEMI Hemi (Hemi) is a modular protocol that integrates Bitcoin and Ethereum to amplify and extend the core capabilities of the two leading blockchain networks. This offers a novel perspective on blockchain interoperability and scaling by approaching Bitcoin and Ethereum as components of a single supernetwork. The result provides security that exceeds that of Bitcoin (“superfinality”) and new levels of blockchain programmability, portability, and potential. Hemi was co-founded by Jeff Garzik (former Bitcoin core developer) and Max Sanchez (inventor of the Proof-of-Proof consensus protocol), and is surrounded by a team of renowned blockchain engineers, strategic partners and investors. More aout Hemi here:

Another Ethereum Foundation leader steps down Hsiao-Wei Wang (hww.eth | Hsiao-Wei Wang) has resigned as co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation (Ethereum Foundation), effective today. Returning from a sabbatical, she said the break gave her room to reflect, and that it's the right moment to step back and spend more time closer to home. She leaves on warm terms, vitalik.eth praised a decade of steadfast contribution and handling "the most challenging position at the most challenging time" with grace. She's roughly the eighth senior figure to leave the EF in five months, following co-ED Tomasz Stańczak's exit in February, amid ongoing scrutiny of the foundation's governance and direction.

Hoskinson Says Ethereum Is Trying to Copy Cardano’s Extended UTXO Charles Hoskinson says Ethereum $ETH is attempting to copy Cardano's Extended UTXO, or EUTXO, while refusing to acknowledge its origins. This comes after Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter shared a proposal for native UTXOs on Ethereum. The Cardano founder called EUTXO the biggest innovation in smart contracts and claimed It's “a crime in the Ethereum inner circles to mention Cardano.” Hoskinson said he has spent more than a decade developing the model and argued it has already been proven at scale.

Circle Sued Over $280M Drift Protocol Hack A class action lawsuit has been filed against Circle Internet Group in a US district court in Massachusetts. The lawsuit accuses the stablecoin giant of failing to freeze funds during a $280 million exploit of Drift Protocol ( $DRIFT ) on April 1. The suit, led by investor Joshua McCollum on behalf of over 100 victims, claims Circle allowed attackers to move roughly $230 million in $USDC from Solana to Ethereum via its own Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol over several hours. Attorneys argue Circle "permitted this criminal use of its technology." Damages remain to be determined at trial.

Vitalik Says Quantum Safety Has Become Urgent Priority For Ethereum Vitalik Buterin (vitalik.eth) outlined a new "Lean Ethereum" strawmap in a post on X. He said the upgrades will roll out over the next three to four years. Buterin compared the shift in scale to the 2022 Merge upgrade. The plan touches nearly every layer of the network, he said. Vitalik Buterin also said quantum resistance has jumped sharply in priority for the network. He said privacy has also become a first class goal under the new plan. The roadmap calls for a new virtual machine to support both goals. Options include leanISA or RISC based designs, Buterin said. Worth noting, the foundation aims to reduce its budget by 40% under a new structure. The cuts follow several executive departures in recent months. Hsiao Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak both left the organization. Protocol contributors Tim Beiko and Barnabé Monnot also departed in May.
