Today, I met H.E. Mr. Losang Jamcan, the Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker and Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, who represented him at my swearing-in ceremony. I thanked President Xi Jinping and the people of China for the strong and historic friendship between our two countries. Uganda values China's decision to open its market to our products under the zero-tariff arrangement, which will boost trade and investment opportunities for our people. We also discussed the need for dialogue and peaceful solutions to international conflicts instead of force and confrontation. Uganda and China have continued to enjoy cordial relations for about 70 years now , rooted in mutual respect and cooperation.

Over the past three years and 3.5 months, I am very pleased to have witnessed the important development and sound momentum of 🇨🇳-🇲🇻 relations. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between 🇨🇳 and 🇲🇻 in 2022. Over the past five decades, China and the Maldives have always respected and supported each other, setting a good example of equal treatment, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation between countries of different sizes. This year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s historic state visit to the Maldives. As the result of the visit, the 🇨🇳-🇲🇻 Friendship Bridge, the expansion and upgrading of Velana International Airport and social housing projects have brought transformative changes to the Maldivian national development and the people’s livelihood as well, laying a solid foundation for further development of the relations between our two countries. In January this year, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, President Dr. Muizzu made a successful state visit to China. The two heads of state announced to elevate our relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and work toward a 🇨🇳-🇲🇻 community with a shared future. The relations of our two countries have come to a new high. Currently, both sides are working very hard to accelerate China-aided projects to build a 100-bed Vilimalé China-Maldives Friendship Hospital and to redevelop the roads of Malé and Vilimalé to establish new landmarks in 🇨🇳-🇲🇻 relations.
