What makes this look closer to Muslim prayer than to most other Christian groups is that Ethiopian Orthodox (and Coptic/Oriental Orthodox) kept the older Near Eastern Christian practice of full prostration, facing east, removing shoes, and using the floor/mats. Most Western churches dropped that centuries ago. The Church in Ethiopia was established in the 4th century, hundreds of years before Islam. Prostration (sigdet) is an ancient Christian practice they still keep, based on passages like Jesus praying with his face to the ground in Gethsemane and Old Testament examples of falling on one’s face before God. So one can ask why does that looks closer to the islamic way of prayer rather than western christian way of prayer? What happened?

They’re just copying Muslims. Muslims pray more like Jesus than Christians.

That is why Islam is admired and respected around the world: it is complete, comprehensive, and provides guidance in every aspect of life, leaving no room for such absurdities or confusion.
