You missed the $20 tip in the USA version

One is working for her tips and the other is content with her salary and isn't looking for your tip.

In the US the tip is the salary, so the waiter treats you like a high-roller whose every sip needs applause. In Europe the restaurant already paid them properly, so they just serve the food and leave you in peace. One system buys a performance. The other buys a meal. 🤷

@histories_arch You forgot the bit about that waiter in the US being paid like a 12 year old and the customer having to assume the employer’s responsibility of supplementing her wages with a tip for simply doing her job.

I like UK service, it's the perfect balance. Check in once when food has arrived about 5 mins later to make sure it's ok and then leave you the hell alone unless they see your drinks are getting low. Maybe it's just what I'm used to but I'm not there to socialise with the server

But the food in most European countries is soo much better. It’s worth the wait. The more since dining is not about speed and getting calories but about taste and atmosphere.

One is dependent on customer to pay their rent. Another has a salary, healthcare, and is thinking about her month holiday in Croatia that is coming up in August.

Don't know where you eatimg in Europe, here in Italy they Always bring you First thing (free) bread and your drink, then leave you alone to decide what to order. They dont constant bother you while you eatimg ofc and they get pay with no need for tip (unless you want to)

Unless you’ve lived in Europe for an extended period, you won’t fully understand the cultural differences in customer service. I think Americans in the service industry tend to see it as helping people, whereas in Europe service workers often treat it as just a job—and sometimes as if they’re doing you a favor. It’s a completely different mindset.

USA annoys me more. In Europe dining out is an experience to be enjoyed not to be constantly interrupted.

Yea because in Europe they’re not waiting for your tip and have to kiss your ass every minute. And also, everything is not artificial and big and fake like in the states.

American system is near homeless people pretending to like you as a twerk for tips/their wages. In return, they talk to you like a child at a McDonalds birthday party.

Where have you been in Europe lol - they literally never serve like that! They have some of the best service in the world particularly France, Italy, Germany etc even the UK dare I say

Off course this is a skit, but the asking for the check in Europe is so real. I do it every time. I can't remember a single time I was presented with the check without asking first. They do come by asking if everything is okay, but they never ask if we need a refill or need anything else. We always have to ask for it. The service can seem lacking, but in my country when the waiters know how to do it the waiter instantly feels like a friend. It's really hard to explain. It's a cultural thing. A kind of quick little banter occurs and things becomes more equal and informal. It becomes easier to call over the waiter and make jokes and remarks. When it works it makes the experience so much better.

Also. When you pay the bill; in the US you have to hit the road the moment the bill has been settled. Or even worst, you finish your meal and they bring the bill straight up. In ‘Europe’ you can stay on for a bit and finish your coffee.

Oh, and one more thing: here, tips usually go into a shared jar and are split equally among all the staff. They’re usually just small amounts, ranging from a few cents to €1 or so. The waiter doesn’t make more money by constantly checking on you or “annoying” you, the restaurant pays the staff their full wages.

You know Europe is not just 1 country, right?

In europe we are very different from each other. There is not one way of treating people.

Def prefer the Europe version. Leave me the f@ck alone.
