I used to agree with euthanasia but it is one issue I have changed my mind about after seeing the abuses Liz Carr mentions in Canada. Do you really think the state should have such power? Or that the government can be trusted when we see how they treat the disabled?

She's absolutely right on that last line, "those protections put in place are slowly whittled away." If it becomes legal here, it will 100% be used to reduce the welfare costs. I understand why people are in favour of it but as a disabled person, I worry it will be used....

@Aja02537920 I saw a video last year I think, of a Canadian man who had been homeless and was desperately poor and he wanted to take the assisted suicide approach. He was severely depressed. Canada is doing several things I think are atrocious. This is one.

It’s not about failed social care and medical system it’s about no quality of life no dignity no normality constant pain and humiliation it’s about just existing and it should be our choice

@adhib I used to agree and support Assisted Dieing, but seeing Canada MAID play out with offers of euthanasia instead of spending money on disability aids, I am strongly against it.

In answer to Lord Deben's question to Lord Falconer about whether he agreed with Baroness Murphy that assisted dying is part of palliative care, Falconer replied: "Assisted dying is about giving somebody a good death and I think palliative care is about exactly the same thing." Unsurprisingly, Lord Deben and others were visibly taken aback. In one sentence, Lord Falconer has revealed the intention behind this Bill, which is to bring assisted suicide into our palliative care system and forever remove the distinction between the two.

Following the Govt’s immigration announcement yesterday a care provider in my constituency has been in touch to say he will lose a third of his staff, while 80 of his 120 clients could be left without support. The Gov has failed to provide a plan for adult social care and now risks capping the number of care workers. It will exacerbate the crisis in adult social care and the NHS. The Govt must urgently confirm how they will plug the staff gap, fund adult social care properly and support care providers already struggling after the NI job tax. Liberal Democrats
