✉️ On Friday, President Biden sent the organization Proud Stutter this letter to celebrate their gathering in Philadelphia this week: "I send my warmest greetings to all those gathered at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for this evening’s Proud Stutter Gathering. I know from personal experience what it’s like growing up with a stutter. It’s hard and people can be cruel. As a boy, I would practice reciting Irish poems out loud over and over again. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but if you keep trying, it does get better. And while everyone’s experiences are different, I can still tell you that when you persevere in the face of struggle, you discover new strengths and skills you never thought you had. Those strengths will help you in many ways throughout your whole life. When I was a kid, my mother used to say, “Joey, remember: No one in the world is better than you, but everyone is your equal.” And I truly believe that. It’s the very idea that America is founded on—that every American has a right to be recognized and respected for who they are—and one that I worked every day of my Presidency to uphold. That’s why I am grateful for Proud Stutter and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Stuttering Program and their work to uplift, empower, and encourage people who stutter. Whether they are providing therapy services and coaching or building a vast community of people with verbal differences, they remind those that stutter that they are not alone. To everyone here today: Always know that a stutter doesn’t define a person—character and courage do. You can do anything, and I’m rooting for you." Joe Biden
