During the election campaign, Merz clearly stated that Ukraine should be given the Taurus missiles, now switched to saying they “remain an option for us.” He gave hope, he took away hope. Nothing new for us. As for the other types of weapon, the Germans remain leaders in providing us military aid. And I am infinitely grateful to them for this. Yes, we were all touched when, while speaking at a press conference in The Hague, Trump showed unusual empathy for a Ukrainian journalist whose husband is a soldier and said that the United States would see if it could provide “some Patriots.” This was interpreted as a good sign. But it turned out to be the opposite. The United States has already blocked multibillion-dollar aid packages, suspended arms shipments to us and did not share intelligence, and sent anti Shahed weapon system to the Middle East, not to us. Another test is ahead. We have hopes for Europe, but please do not get your hopes up. Foundations and volunteers close thousands of requests from the military, from UAVs to satellite communication systems. This is the best alliance. Civil society and the Army. The people and the soldiers. We are grateful to our partners, but we have no right to get lost in illusions. Their support is the result of electoral cycles, ratings, and fears.
