Even Joe Biden advocated for work requirements for able-bodied citizens receiving government assistance. Biden was one of 78 senators from both parties who voted for the 1996 welfare reform package that then-President Bill Clinton, signed into law.

It’s simple. It’s common sense. Which is why it makes sense that Democrats oppose it.

The 1996 welfare reform was a rare moment of bipartisan sense—Clinton and Biden backed work requirements to curb dependency, and caseloads dropped 60%. But here’s the catch: replacing one bureaucracy with another doesn’t fix systemic waste. TANF’s block grants just shifted the pork barrel to states, letting bureaucrats rebrand failure as “success” while taxpayers still footed the bill. Real reform isn’t tinkering with eligibility rules—it’s dismantling the welfare-industrial complex that profits from poverty. Until we slash red tape, defund redundant agencies, and prioritize self-sufficiency over handouts, DC’s just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Can we also please cut off all non citizens from government handouts? We have enough challenges with our own people.

I feel that competing against foreign born non US citizens, for any job, is an affront to our ancestors, who served in wars, and citizens who are currently having a difficult time bc of this injustice. Fix it. No deals, no dreamers or DACA.

As I stated...work requirements make sense...except the problem with that right now is the fact that Federal and State govt's across this country have been and continue to conspire against US citizen workers weaponizing foreign national workers here legally and illegally
