Neat. What with the sudden shot gun blast ones? The thunder that booms so loud you can feel the sound waves hit you but it only lasts a second? Scares the bejeses out of me!

I kid you not, we had a small storm roll through northern Illinois yesterday evening where rolling thunder didn’t stop the entire 45 minutes it stormed. I thought I was tripping and a tornado was approaching at first lol

i have wondered too if in complex rotational, vertical, wind conditions were involved. doppler effects. low rumbles ride wind blowing away, higher and less attenuated frequencies sooner from wind blowing toward you. wind direction changes along the way. etc.

We had a cloud yesterday here in Coshocton, OH that passed just to the north of town but rumbled thunder for about 15 minutes as it slowly went about its day
