Adam Driver says Kylo Ren was originally supposed to end fully committed to the dark side before Star Wars changed his arc “His idea was almost the opposite journey of Vader. Vader starts the most confident and committed to the dark side, and by the last movie he’s the most vulnerable and weak” “He wanted to start at the opposite, where this character was the most confused and vulnerable, and by the end of the three movies would be most committed to the dark side” “Then the last one changed. It was never a version where we actually see Ben Solo when I first signed up for it”

This is 100% why I love The Last Jedi. At the time it came out I was 41 years old. Had been going through some of the hardest years of my life. And Rian Johnson's version of Luke Skywalker spoke to what I was experiencing. The Hero's Journey isn't just a coming of age mythological framework. It continues on into later phases of the human experience. The Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi speaks to that.

This is 100% why I love The Last Jedi. At the time it came out I was 41 years old. Had been going through some of the hardest years of my life. Farewell to the legendary Tim Curry, who voiced Chancellor Palpatine in The Clone Wars, taking over the role following the passing of Ian Abercrombie. Curry only spent a relatively short time in the galaxy far, far away, but there was simply no mistaking that voice. He brought his own sinister presence to Sidious and became part of Star Wars history in the process. Thank you for everything, Tim Curry. May the Force be with you, always.

I know a lot of people have strong feelings on the Sequel Trilogy, but it’s still amazing to me as to just how incredible Kylo Ren’s introduction is at the start of The Force Awakens. Being the first Star Wars movie in a little over decade, it put a lot of pressure on a new antagonist that wasn’t Darth Vader, but in just over a minute, JJ Abrams and Adam Driver made Kylo Ren debatably just as iconic.

A common criticism of the ST is the choreography. But it actually fits the timeline. These characters were trained in the wild, decades after the fall of the Jedi Order. The 7 forms fell out of practice. Even LUKE didn't learn them from Yoda, he only had books later. So Ben Solo wouldn't have been trained in them either. There is no reason that these characters should fight like Prequel Jedi, and the ST duels are more similar to the OT duels, because they take place after the OT.
