Every detail emerging about this #OceanGate Titanic submersible submersive makeshift submarine is disturbing. 😳 They lost contact an hour and a half into the trip in this remote area and the coast guard isn't really prepared for underwater rescues. 🤔 #HamishHarding

I can't imagine getting into a 22' tube with 4 other people and no seats, no shoes, smelling each other's farts, to descend to see a martime masoleum that shouldn't be disturbed . . . let alone paying $250k each to do so . . . and I used to jump out of airplanes for a living 😜

The deepest rescue of a human in record is 1,500 feet. The titanic is 2 miles deeper than that, not exactly a cake walk.

This isn't just "underwater"; the Titanic wreck sits at about 2 &1/2 miles deep with the pressure of 400 atmospheres (6000 psi from what I've researched.) There is no logistical possibility to rescue these people that far down. I'm not sure the average person can grasp this 😬

Funny how NASA can map entire galaxies millions of light years away, detect quasars, black holes, etc but have a difficult time finding things in water that they can actually touch

Certainly not a “makeshift” submarine. It was co-designed and built with NASA. Just shows that regardless of expertise, you can’t predict disaster.

I haven't yet seen any references to NASA involvement in the development of the #OceanGate submersible for Titanic wreckage viewing. However, the CEO did mention sourcing parts for the vessel from Camper World. 🥴

The Titanic wreck is really deep (over 12,000 feet down). I don't know that even the Navy has the technical capability to do a rescue in that deep of water.

There is only 3 subs that can get that deep. One is missing. U can't go down and rescue them. If they find em on the bottom what do they do?

Why would the coast guard be expected to be prepared for that?

“Coast guard isn’t really prepared for 12,500 ft. deep dives to rescue 5 people in a tourism submarine.” Are they supposed to be?
