Every episode I direct of Criminal Minds: Evolution means something different to me, but this week's is especially close to my heart. One reason: I had the deep honor of officiating the real-life wedding of Janelle Gaeta Marmo who you'll see in a scene with myself and Voit. Another:... it features Linda Lavin, a beautiful soul and dear new-old friend. I didn't know it at the time, but I was directing her final performance, one that is as profound as it is unforgettable. And the last reason this episode is so meaningful... well, you'll have to watch to understand. Fittingly, the episode is called 'Time to Say Goodbye. And though we never truly say goodbye to someone like Linda, whose light stays with us, this one is for her and all those we've loved and lost, yet stay with us in ways words can never fully capture. And I felt like booking the best hotel for her to sleep in, so I did. That day, she kept looking at the view from the hotel, and I saw her reaction. She said, “Mama has never slept in a hotel like this in my whole life. Mama has been working since the age of 14, performing Chinese opera to provide for the family. I never thought I’d have something like this. Never thought I’d have a beautiful home or get to ride in nice cars.” And it resonated with me, especially since Pa passed away. When Mama says things like that, (it is) true. What I had planned was just one (more) year until Pa and Ma could retire… (but) it was too late. Even if it was just one year or one day, it was too late. Success can wait for tomorrow, (but) if they are not there tomorrow, then it is too late. So, I felt like, “Hey, when can I make her happy?” To be honest, the new house that I built for her, where she can do this and that, is finished. The renovations are all done. The cats have moved in. (She?) has a role as the pillar of the house. So, I feel that the car… I had bought one before, but that time, I had to thank the fans. But this time, it came from (my own) hard work. I want it to be something that makes Mama happy. I know that I bought a car, and she can’t drive it, but I want her to see that I am starting… I want her to see that I have succeeded.

A message from Catherine, The Princess of Wales As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown. The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved. Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life. William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling. To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Honestly. This episode broke me. This was my live reaction to Jesse’s final message in this episode. You’ll have to watch the episode to understand. Somehow I felt I needed to capture this moment. 💚 My reaction? Not in a bad way. I think. But in a profoundly validating sense. I can’t even begin to describe or unpack the many moments and dots and synchronicities in this episode that resonate to my experiences, and none that were obvious to me. Even “messages,” I dared not reveal to many as they were outlandish. Impossible. And yet maybe they were not outlandish at all. As shocking as it is. Overwhelmed by the nature of this video. 5 years ago, I would never have imagined. But sincere gratitude to those willing to expose the truth. The list is so long. The flame bearers. Jacob Tierney discusses his process for writing Heated Rivalry and outlining season two: "The book [Heated Rivalry] is in five parts and very quickly I was like, part one, episode one. Part two, episode two. It was very clear to me. …So in this case, I actually did not outline. Because I was just using these parts of this book, and I knew these books so well at this point. Something that I did, and that I'm trying to do again now when I'm writing the new season, is I'm trying to use—Because there's a dreaminess to this show, I try to use my memory as a guide. I'm like, what do I remember? And then I try to give primacy to the stuff that I remember and that has stuck in my brain all these years with this story. So I’m like, oh I have to do that! And that's a nice way for me to kind of center things. Where if I have to do that, then it means maybe I don't have to do this, and it maybe means I want to combine or collapse different things. Because if this is going to take up—If one incident that I'm thinking of is going to take up the space in an episode that I think of as the heart, …then you don't need to do a first version of it in the same way, you know? Little things like that. That being said, for this season because I'm working with a co-writer as well, we have outlined everything. Happy anniversary to one of my most cherished and most favorite games of all time. Final Fantasy IV. ✨ This game is so good. A bit of an emotional post for me. I’ve lost very important people in my life. Have lost loved ones and recently my soul dog. Life has been rough and it’s been a struggle. This series has helped me so much with my emotions and keeping those dear to me close to my heart. When I play Final Fantasy IV (every year) I think of my oldest brother who passed away 2 years ago. This game means so much more to me now because of the goodbye. I’ll always cry at the end of FFIV and I’ll never forget my brother. Stay strong out there. 🙏🫶🏼 Find that reminder and passion that will always make you cherish your loved ones and make that your strength to keep pushing forward… because this is what Final Fantasy means to me. Family and love.

I have to share this life changing story….. Not only is Auntie Patti Labelle an icon and legend and has one of the warmest hearts and spirits…. She did a tour years back around the time SHAME dropped and fans in the audience started posting clips of Patti LaBelle singing Shame in the middle of our concert…. I literally couldn’t believe it….. Nooooo way!!! I was told she loved loved loved SHAME played it everyday!!!! So when I finally got her to thank her for ALL that she is to me and us ALL…. I had to sing it for queen one time live in her kitchen in Philly!
