I still fry Whiting today didn't know it was a juke joint fish

We still eat most of these jawns and I live in New York lol

I have buffalo fish in my freezer right now, my fam in Ark gets it and I bring a cooler home every time I visit. Fried some last weekend!

I still fuck with the sausage cheese and cracker.

@TCKids3 Indigenous Foundational Black American food

Makes sense now why they had a tamales spot on the Main Street in ‘Sinners.’

I told someone I hated tamales bc that husk tasted awful. Thats when I learned you weren’t supposed to eat that 😜

@BlackHockeyClu1 Some of these we still eat in the south, fried whiting, pickeled eggs (unfortunately) , and pork chop sandwiches. I’d like to try the buffalo fish.

You know this is a white man using AI to make money from black viewers. 🤣🤣🤣

Dilworth’s Tamales, in the video, is still going strong in Corinth, MS since 1962.

Soul food is just pour southerner food that Black people are culturally appropriating. Sorry, not sorry

@BigSmoke813035 If I never cut another piece of fish in my life, it would be buffalo. I worked in a fish market and restaurant. Cutting “bony buff” or buffalo ribs has a method. Otherwise you’re cutting poked by hundreds of bones.

Mfr this is some bullshit. Absolutely everything you listed still exists

My old man still eats all of this date. And intentionally goes out of his way to purchase it.

Great video. During the great migration, a great number of African-Americans moved north from the Delta to Chicago to find work. There are still a number of places and food trucks in Chicago serving these Delta tamales which, as you said are different than Mexican. Also there are several places that sell fried pork chop sandwiches, bone in. My favorite is the one on 31st St. just under the railroad crossing, just west of Princeton. I haven’t seen pickled eggs in a long time, but when I was in college in Gainesville, Florida, I was the assistant manager of a bar and we always had a jar on the counter at room temperature. I learned how to make them and I have a recipe for them on my website, And I beg to differ slightly with your assessment of sausages. There are so many real butchers out there still making great sausages. But most of them are European immigrants. There are a bunch of them here in Chicago and Texas is lousy with them.

Whiting doesn’t have bones, just a spine that gets pulled out completely when preparing the fillets

I remember hot tamales in corn husks. Absolutely delicious! I always wondered where they went. I bet some old grannies still make them. God bless them. Old grannies fed their loved ones everything they could, & many old grannies fed more than their own. Mine did. Miss her. <3

These joints look good. How did we go from this to kool aid wings?

I grew up in NOLA. I used to get hot tamales from this food truck. I ate catfish and whiting all the time, not that fake-ass swai. Never had buffalo fish, though. And there's not too much better than a fried, breaded pork chop sandwich with a light spread of mayo on it. 😋

This touched my heart💕. When he said “Pork Chop Sandwich” my spirit leaped up within me. Man Listen; Talk about something delicious. American White Bread… bless its heart. Gayed Dey.

Bring back gutting and scaling the fish at home.

I miss Buffalo fish. I’m cool on the pork dishes and catfish though.

I remember growing up in the 70s my mom and grandma made those meals. Yummy 😋 u don't see that anymore

We still get tamales from the Delta.

Just had fried pork chops last week 😭

Ai learned ebonics?

Love the narration on this

Now I know what Robert Johnson was talking about - likely not the Mexican tamales that I thought

Fried pork chop sandwiches are a staple in my house. Sooo freaking good 😋

My aunt and uncle owned a fish market here in Chicago on the West side where all the old Blues guys would play out in the parking lot. Delta Fish Market. They sold every kind of fish. Me-- only liked catfish. Never Buffalo or whitefish. Got a few folks here still making tamales. All the other things you can still find if you look hard enough. Liked the post. Brought back good memories.

We still eat whitings

They KNOW we are NOT supposed to eat CATFISH thats why they flooded OUR DIVINE MISSISIPIANS WITH IT, WHITINGS IS THE WAY TO GO...WE HAVE TO LEAVE PORK AND fish without scales alone. ITS OUR ANCIENT WAYS AND MISSISSPIANS ARE AN ANCIENT PEOPLE PINK TOES KNOW IT THAT WHY THE TERROR

We still eat fried whiting in my house

Umm some of these have not disappeared. Whiting sandwiches are still sold in my state. And I knew of an elks that had pickled eggs, and we do pork chop sandwiches at my house
