For those that had the privilege to see the greatness of linebacker Derrick Thomas in person, they will remember the significance of what happened 37 years ago when the Alabama Football legend ensured the Crimson Tide would not lose in an 8-3 victory over Penn State on Oct. 22, 1988, inside Legion Field. Thomas terrorized Penn State’s Tony Sacca all afternoon and finished with three sacks, nine quarterback hurries, eight tackles and almost outscored the Nittany Lions by himself with a fourth-quarter safety. Led by the heroic performance, the Crimson Tide defense allowed just 21 yards in the second half. In the 1988 season, Thomas won the Butkas Award as the nation’s top linebacker and finished with a staggering 27 sacks. To put that in perspective, Alabama as a team had 25 sacks last season with one extra game. “We made some changes at halftime to free Derrick Thomas,” Alabama head coach Bill Curry said. “Once Derrick Thomas is flying around, all kinds of things happen. They start looking for him. It’s a real nightmare when there’s a player like that on the other team.” CBS televised the defensive slugfest and announcer Brent Musburger described Thomas’s afternoon as, “the most dominating performance I’ve ever seen by a college player.” Philip Doyle scored the only offensive points for Alabama with a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter, before giving the Crimson Tide a 6-3 lead with a 35-yard field goal in the third quarter. This is what makes me laugh about you idiots on X who jump in my comments on a daily basis…… Bronny James played in the McDonald’s All-American game following his senior year of high school. He was the best SHOOTER on the court by FAR, scoring 15 points and shooting 5/8 from 3-point range. He went to USC. He was projected to be a one-and-done player. He dropped dead from sudden cardiac arrest prior to his first practice. Emergency staff at the scene was able to bring him back with CPR. 99% of basketball players would have never touched a basketball again. Bronny returned to the court after just four months. The normal recovery time for his heart trauma was/is about 2 years. He joined the USC basketball team, and completed the season while suffering physically, mentally, and emotionally. If you have never dropped dead, then you will never understand the mental impact of this experience. I don’t give a crap about his college stats for obvious reasons…..nor did NBA GM’s. —————————————————— Following the season, he declared for the NBA Draft. He attended the NBA Draft combine along with 77 other collegiate players. Out of 78 players at the combine, Bronny was the 2nd best shooter in shooting drills. I am attaching live video of Bronny going through shooting drills at the combine in front of NBA Coaches and GM’s. It takes THOUSANDS of reps to shoot like this under PRESSURE. THOUSANDS. 85% of the guards in the NBA can’t shoot like this on the run. He then recorded a 40.5” vertical, giving him the 4th highest vertical of all of the players at the combine. ———————————————— After witnessing his combine performance, the Warriors, Mavericks, Timberwolves, and Raptors all wanted to draft Bronny. His agent, Rich Paul, told them to pass because the Lakers had already assured him that they would be drafting Bronny with the 55th pick. 2 years removed from his sudden cardiac arrest episode, Bronny is just now fully back to his physical and mental form. He’s back dunking over guys now. He’s back to playing tough defense, and he finally has the heart endurance to play quality minutes. All EARNED!! Nothing given!

Brett Wichrowski Brett Wichrowski Acquired: 2023 13th round selection Measurables: 6’2”, 177 lbs, 21 years old Cliff Notes: The Brewers picked the Junior out of Bryant who had steadily improved over his NCAA career last year. By his junior campaign, Wichrowski posted a 4.50 ERA and 64 Ks/25 BBs in 50 innings pitched. He also has steadily added velocity in his offseasons (with Baseball Performance Center), which he showed off in the Spring Breakout series sitting 99 mph. In the Spring Breakout game he went 2 IP with zero earned & one strikeout plus in his outing in Big League Camp he went one scoreless, facing three batters with a K. His mix appears to have a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball with secondary offerings of a cutter, slider, and change-up. All look relatively effective playing off his fastballs, with the cutter jumping out of his hand and slider/change-up being effective enough off of his velocity. With his experience in NCAA baseball, the New England Collegiate Baseball League and the Cape Cod League, I would not be surprised if the Brewers start him in at least A ball. Wichrowski played three seasons at Bryant where he progressed as one would expect. His sophomore campaign was across 38 innings where he posted a 5.21 ERA, 37 Ks, and a high 30 BBs. His Junior season he demonstrated serious improvements, giving up less earned runs on average as well as upping his K rate while decreasing his BB rate. He rode that good season into being a Brewers Draft Pick. I look forward to seeing how the Brewers deploy the righty in the minors. As mentioned above, in the Spring Breakout game he was topping out at 99 mph. He uses that speed when throwing both of his fastballs, while his cutter is about 10 mph slower and effectively horizontally cuts due to his excellent extension. His slider is another nice option for glove-side movement, while he continues to work on his change up. His college walk rates/WHIP are something that are of concern, but more time in the Brewers organization should help him control his offerings better. His multiple plus offerings give Wichrowski a great chance to be an MLB contributor as long as he can improve control (which he showed in his Spring Breakout & Spring Training outings) He is definitely a guy to keep an eye on in 2024 and I could see him gaining transaction on some prospect lists. “Nobody was open” Caleb Williams had a throwing window to TE #84 Colston Loveland in the back of the end zone. Williams was looking right at him. Williams cocked his arm, but hesitated and “thought better of it.” Plus, he had a backside target #2 D.J. Moore in the end zone jumping around wide open on the opposite side of the field, but Williams never has seen the whole field well… Of course, nobody will focus on how the moment was too big for him and how he hesitated instead of taking the shot with the No. 1 seed in the NFC hanging in the balance. Instead, they’ll just make more excuses for him. Too harsh? No, I don’t believe it is. Some athletes want the ball in their hand in the biggest moment of their careers, and others do not. The problem with Williams is that he wanted to keep the ball in his hand, once again, way too long. I got 8.11 seconds when I put a stopwatch to it. That might be the longest he’s ever held it. It’s the longest I’ve ever seen him hold it and I studied every snap he ever took at USC and have watched many of his games with the Bears since. Ben Johnson has done a GREAT job hiding Williams behind the No. 3 rushing attack in the NFL (149.1 yards per game Team Rankings) and with YAC receivers who have accounted for about half of his “passing yardage” this season, but in the end, who players really are comes out in the big moments. In the end, the overwhelming urge for Williams to play hero ball again and do something more than just take what was there cost him and his team. Whether it was selfishness and/or fear of missing Loveland and not trusting his 57.9% arm, or a combination of both can be debated, but what can’t be debated is this right here embodies why Caleb Williams is NOT IT in Chicago, ironically in the city where another athlete lived to take the shot. Yes, Caleb Williams is a bust. Outside of all the glamorized “dink and dunk,” short little passes and sporadic highlights that misrepresent his full body of work, it’s once again confirmed that he is a bust, just like I wrote 107 days before the Bears selected him in this pre-draft scouting report: That doesn’t make me happy by the way, I just wish prospects could get fair valuations based on what they actually show in college as projections so that their NFL careers could be framed with realistic expectations and they would have their very best chance to succeed, which is one of my main goals in what I do. Luke Altmyer is one of the MOST DISRESPECTED QBs in the Big Ten heading into 2025. After a great 2024 season, this Illinois senior is getting ZERO love from analysts and so-called experts. In 2024, Altmyer was a straight-up game-changer for the Illini, leading them to a 10-3 record (tying the program’s single-season wins record) and three Top-25 victories. He had 2,717 passing yards, 22 TDs, just 6 INTs, plus 217 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs, and he led the nation with FIVE game-winning drives in the final minute or overtime, including clutch TD passes at Nebraska, vs. Purdue, and at Rutgers. He was the only QB in the nation with three game-winning TD passes in the final 2 minutes/OT. He was the only QB in the nation with four TD passes in a Top-25 road win. He was 36th nationally in passing efficiency (144.90) last year, which is within 5 points of Cade Klubnik, Kyle McCord, Quinn Ewers, Jalen Milroe, and Nico Iamaleava—also tied with Fernando Mendoza. He is the first Illini QB since 2013 with 20+ TD passes in a season. All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and a Davey O’Brien Award Class of 2024 member. Despite all these things, the disrespect is still there. Analysts are leaving him completely off their Top-10 CFB QB lists and even Top-5 Big Ten QB rankings. They’re hyping up unproven freshmen like Bryce Underwood and Malik Washington, or guys with minimal starts like Julian Sayin, over a proven QB1 like Altmyer. Even QBs who haven’t matched his production—Nico Iamaleava, Dante Moore, and Dylan Raiola—are getting more shine. And get this: some NFL Draft sites don’t even list Altmyer as a prospect but have Hank Brown and Malachi Singleton on their boards. Are you kidding me? This is the same Luke Altmyer who turned down a massive NIL deal to jump ship to Tennessee—a CFP team last year—because he’s loyal to Illinois and believes in the Illini Luke stayed in Champaign to finish what he started. That’s a 2025 Wooden Citizen Cup nominee and a leader who walks the walk. The Big Ten is stacked, but Altmyer’s one of the top returning QBs alongside Drew Allar. The hype around untested 5-stars is always high and they'll get their shine this season. But Altmyer’s 35 career TD passes (tied for 9th in Illini history), clutch gene, and third year in Lunney’s system make him a game changer. He’s not just a QB; he’s the heart of a team eyeing their first-ever CFP appearance. So, to the analysts, talking heads, and draft sites sleeping on Luke Altmyer: WAKE UP. Here Abdul Carter defends his public trashing of his teammate, Jaxson Dart, and causing a national ruckus on social media. As a lifelong New York Giants fan, I'm disgusted by Abdul Carter. Carter, on social media, called out his teammate Jaxson Dart, the NY Giants QB, for having the temerity to introduce the President of the United States at an event in New York. The content of Dart's introduction was innocuous, and non partisan. Here's what Carter says: "Some things are bigger than football, and this is one of those things. Jaxson is one of our leaders - he's the face of our franchise. He represents himself and what he does, and he represents all of us. If he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it's my responsibility based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I'm against that, but to show the world." And exactly why does Carter think he has a moral duty to trash his teammate to the world over a difference in political outlook? But here's the thing. Carter says he idolizes Giants great Lawrence Taylor, who is an outspoken supporter of President Trump, who actively campaigned for President Trump. So doesn't Carter have any problem with Lawrence Taylor? Carter arrogantly even asked the team to be able to wear Lawrence Taylor's #56 . . . . . . even though Carter had only arrived as a rookie, had not played a single game for the Giants, and had not yet achieved anything on the field for the Giants. Carter was told "NO," LT's number is retired forever. Carter then went on to grossly underperform, playing the same position as Taylor -- outside linebacker and edge rusher. He got only 4 sacks for the entire season. For Lawrence Taylor, getting 4 sacks in a single game was just another day at the office. Taylor, of course, is the greatest defensive player in NFL history -- generally considered the 2nd or 3rd greatest player in NFL history behind Jim Brown and Tom Brady. Abdul Carter caused trouble for the Giants his entire rookie season. He was often late to practice. He was benched for the start of one game as punishment for missing a team meeting in favor of napping. Carter did not appear to be putting in full effort in practices or in games. He was an entitled bellyacher and a complainer his entire rookie year. Meanwhile, Jaxson Dart over-performed expectations for his rookie year. He was also drafted in the first round, though lower than Carter. Dart is widely considered a rising star at QB. He played in 12 games, passed for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdown passes against just 5 interceptions. He also rushed for 487 yards and had 9 rushing touchdowns. He was named Offensive Rookie of the Month for October. So Dart had a much better rookie season (by miles) than Abdul Carter, who was advertised as possibly the next Lawrence Taylor. Not only is Carter no Lawrence Taylor, he should not even have been drafted in the first round based on his rookie year performance. Dart is a player the Giants can build a team around. And he's a great kid any parent would be proud of. By contrast, Carter beat up a tow truck driver in 2024. Carter was enraged that his car was being towed because it was illegally parked. When he saw his car was being towed, he grabbed the tow truck driver, hauled him out of his tow truck, smashed him onto the pavement and broke his ribs. When invited to introduce the President of the United States, almost anyone would be thrilled to do it. That's what Dart did. If I were invited to introduce Barack Obama at an event (for some weird reason), I would be honored to do it -- even though I think Obama was a horrible President. And I would think of something nice to say -- because that's what you do if you have manners. That's what Jaxson Dart did. He certainly does support President Trump, as do most NFL players and 90% of NFL QBs. But Dart said nothing remotely controversial or even partisan in his introduction. I believe the Giants should trade Abdul Carter for whoever they can get. He is a toxic and divisive force in the locker room. The New York Giants do not need a Colin Kaepernick on the team.

Xinjiang, where over 90% of China's cotton is grown, has kicked off this year's planting season. It is also one of the largest cotton-producing regions in the world, with approximately 5.69 million tonnes of cotton harvested in 2024 alone. Last year, I visited Xinjiang twice for work, though both trips focused on pastoral communities and archaeological sites. However, I've been curious about the lives of local farmers, especially those who grow cotton, naturally due to some noises and debates concerning this topic over the years. So I reached out to colleagues familiar with the field-and their insights offered some perspectives I hadn't delved into before. Today, cotton planting in Xinjiang is not even labor-intensive. It has been replaced by highly mechanized and intelligent farming practices. Take Xayar County (沙雅县) in southern Xinjiang's Aksu (阿克苏) for example-one of the first places in Xinjiang to start planting cotton each year (Incidentally, over 50 years ago, my father, then just a primary school student, moved from Beijing to Aksu with my grandparents. Life there was much tougher than in the capital, but he still recalls it as one of the happiest and most unforgettable periods of his life. He witnessed firsthand the harmonious ties between different ethnic groups and made several Uygur friends. The ties are so profound that he has returned several times to visit his old buddies). According to 2024 data, Xayar has a population of 261,257, with 225,938 Uygurs, accounting for 86.48% of the total. Uygur farmers make up about 80% of all cotton growers in the county. One of them is Ababekri, who farms alongside his father and four brothers. They use a driverless cotton planter equipped with BeiDou satellite positioning technology. While one person usually remains in the cabin as a precaution, the machine moves in perfectly straight lines according to its programmed route, performing sowing, laying drip irrigation tubing, and applying plastic mulch-all in one go. The efficiency of driverless planter is 30% to 40% higher than manual seeding machines and can even operate at night. For the Ababekri family, they manage 320 hectares of cotton fields (equal to over four times of the Forbidden City), and it takes just over 10 days to complete the entire planting process. "We chose to grow cotton to live a better life-and we're getting there." The 37-year-old farmer told my colleague. That choice, however, didn't start with him. Ababekri's father made the switch to cotton around 2003, replacing about 1.33 hectares of wheat after observing neighbors earned strong profits from the cash crop. At the time, Ababekri was still a teenager and didn't appreciate the decision at all. He found cotton-planting exhausting, especially during harvest season when the entire family had to manually pick cotton in the fields (Yes! Before automation, aside from melons, cotton was probably the most labor-intensive crop in Xinjiang. During harvest season, large numbers of temporary workers had to be even recruited from other provinces across China to help pick cotton up). Yet, that very first year, their household income exceeded 20,000 yuan-a considerable sum even in Beijing at the time, let alone in Xinjiang. He quickly realized that cotton offered a path to a better life, with returns several times higher than any other crops. Over the years, the family steadily grew their cotton operation into a thriving business. Not only has planting become automated, but cotton harvesting in Xinjiang has also largely moved away from manual labor. According to the Xinjiang Cotton Association, as of 2024: ✅100% of cotton planting in Xinjiang is mechanized ✅Approximately 90% of harvesting is also done by machine Ababekri has, for the past three years, hired a Han Chinese driver, around the same age as him, to operate a cotton harvester during the autumn season. The machine can pick about 33 hectares per day, and it takes also only 10 days to complete the entire harvest on his land. In a place where western media headlines often dwell on "ethnic tension," the quiet, seamless cooperation between farmers like Ababekri and his team speaks to a different truth. He employs dozens of workers, several of whom are Han Chinese. Being asked if he had heard about the portrayed division, he replied simply: "I don't care what ethnicity someone is. I only care who can help me grow better cotton." A few statistics help paint a clearer picture of cotton production in Xinjiang: ✅In 2024, Xinjiang's cotton planting area reached 36.72 million mu, accounting for 86.2% of the national total ✅Total production reached 5.686 million tonnes, or 92.2% of China's total output ✅There are 327,000 smallholder cotton farmers in the region, over 70% of whom are ethnic minorities ✅The industry provides employment and livelihoods for over 2 million people from all ethnic backgrounds For many families, cotton farming is the main source of income. However, many export-oriented enterprises have faced serious challenges due to America-led sanctions. Dozens of companies in Xinjiang have been blacklisted over labor allegations. Some companies had to cut production, lay off workers, or even shut down entirely, leaving many employees jobless. A lost job is never just a number-for me it's how they put decent food on the table, send their children to better education, and build a future. The irony is stark: Xinjiang's cotton industry has been fundamentally transformed by modernization. Accusations of "forced labor" are not only baseless, but also deeply disrespectful to the people whose lives depend on this honest work-people like Ababekri and his family, who work hard make the life better. There has been no shortage of headlines and discourse surrounding Xinjiang cotton. But to truly understand this land, we need to look beyond the noise-to the fields, the machines, and the hands who guide them. Their stories aren't about politics. They're about dignity. I only care who can help me grow better cotton."
