Every now and then I try GitHub Copilot in VS Code. I truely wonder if anyone working on it is actually using it. The UX is mindboggling bad. Hide session bar, chat area gets small, resize chat area, session bar appears again. Make it make sense.

The part which annoys you is a very recent change which I personally don't like very much, here's how to turn it off:

Thanks!

UX designer here - I designed this! I agree this isn't great lol - this weirdness comes from addressing two different ideas/feedback but missing how this impacts the overall interaction. Working on a fix and to make the behavior more clear now!

It's only useful for the auto completely really.

I've disabled that too, because it's just bad.

I feel like there is a market for a really good tab complete model that's editor independent.

Zed tried that iirc, sort of.

Yeah, this isn't great. A bunch of recent changes to get agent sessions view in place, but this isn't right. Getting with the team.

@pierceboggan

This particular UI interaction is a bit jank. But it's a brand new feature. @pierceboggan you all aware of this one I presume?

try gemini code assist, way worse

I’m glad this is bad. In the end, VSCode is just an editor, so it doesn’t need a good UX here if it’s just used for quick questions or refactoring so you dont leave your editor. There are other products that do that, so people can use them instead.

Ok this should be fixed in VS Code stable starting tomorrow! More improvements coming, thanks for trying it out.

Awesome, thank you!

skill issues. understand it first and configure it. they mention all new settings and ux details in the release notes

If the default is a buggy mess, I refuse to "imrpove my skills". Thank you for sharing your "journey".

> I truely wonder if anyone working on it is actually using it 😛

That's for one of the other three gazillion copilots iiuc. :D

The team is constantly reving on it and tweaking so you will see more and more updates, hit that feedback button! ❤️ @BrigitMurtaugh

They've done some recent bad UX choices in the UI. Other than that I actually love the Github Copilot in Vscode and use it all day everyday 😅

True. They have a decent Jetbrains plugin, though.

I use Copilot in VSCode every day. I hate that side bar. It's been out in the wild a couple of weeks now I think.

Crying in only allowed to use this.

I might have a surprise for you in 10 minutes.

That right-right panel is such a pane. Totally broken in Insiders, and so annoying in production release.

@code fix that please

chat window doing peekaboo while i’m just trying to debug vibes

Roo Code has the better UI. The VSC agents ui is just confusing

I disabled it a couple of days ago. I really don't like AI integration into the editor. Either CLI, or on the cloud such as @julesagent , or just copy past manually.

Yeah the UX has gotten bad with that double session thing there

Copilot sucks. In all iterations. It's terrible and only Apple is preventing them from being dead last in the AI race.

Totally agree, UX feels chaotic

VSCode and GitHub are classic Microsoft Embrace, Extend, Extinguish trojans. Uninstall.

I only use Copilot in opencode, due to best value for the given price. Other than that, I don't use Copilot at all

duh, engineers of today, can't even click on 'hide sessions' and crying about UI

Yeah it’s still rough

What r u using

It says so right in the tweet?

I meant instead of vs code I agree with your sentiments

have mercy, they're all limited by company policy to use microsoft office 365 copilot 😅

You should try using vscode and copilot on tablet, that’s where fun starts. Example, Copilot doesn’t support copy or paste on touch screens, revert only deletes chat history but not files,ui changes often but not always for good and bugs are never fixed, but IT’S STILL USABLE haha

Literally the first thing I did after the update was to remove that sessions bar. Apart from that I'm very happy with Github Copilot

Wow. They should just copy Cursor at this point, that’s ridiculously bad.

How many WTFs per minute?

I hate this, awful ux
