Can you actually use jumping onto the side of the bus like that to dodge hazard and items?

Not sure if it'll dodge red shells yet but you can jump to avoid other ones so far.

There’s many races where I’m at 1st or 2nd holding that position for a minute then I get hit so many times that I’m at 21st place.
