So the SAVE Act is not solving a real problem, it is creating a new barrier to voting for actual American citizens. This has been studied from the left and the right. The Brennan Center found suspected noncitizen voting in 2016 amounted to about 0.0001 percent of votes in 42 jurisdictions. Cato, not exactly a left-wing shop, also says claims of mass noncitizen voting are false and unsupported. Even the Heritage database, which conservatives love citing, reportedly listed only 24 instances of noncitizens voting from 2003 to 2023. That is not an election crisis. That is statistical dust. So no, we do not need another law making something illegal that is already illegal. What the SAVE Act actually does is force Americans to produce documentary proof of citizenship to register, like a passport or birth certificate. Millions of eligible citizens do not have those documents readily available, especially people with name changes, older voters, rural voters, poor voters, and married women whose birth certificates do not match their current legal names. You are not protecting elections. You are using a fake problem to justify making it harder for real citizens to vote. That is not election integrity. That is voter suppression with a flag pin on it.
