The first time I had to fire someone, my boss said "remember that firing isn't a negotiation." Good advice.

Whenever I let an employee go, I always keep this clip in mind and tell them they’ve been traded to the Tigers and that Jay Palmer is expecting their call

I felt 'Up in the Air' handled it better from my own personal experiences. But as I said last night HR departments in the companies I worked for handled this like pros. I guess things have changed a lot.

The first time I had to let someone go I asked for advice, and all I got back was ‘Moneyball. Watch Moneyball ‘.

I got laid off via email with an optional call with HR/the CEO if I wanted it, and that's 100% my preferred experience. My whole team got cut, so it didn't feel personal, and I wasn't forced into an awkward rejection convo where I had to perform.
