why do you keep allowing all these black players to attack in assault Caitlin and Sophie because they're white? It's clearly driven by racism, jealousy and hatred. Here’s my thing: though the call is coming from inside the house, Stephanie White specifically spoke about not wanting divisiveness within the league. Yet, when ESPN covered the situation, they framed it as if Fever players are being harassed after DiJonai Carrington fouled Sophie Cunningham. When, in reality, DiJonai is the one being relentlessly and disgustingly harassed online after a hard foul on Sophie. It’s especially frustrating because plays like this happen all the time in basketball. Glossing over the harassment DiJonai is receiving and instead centering the Indiana Fever, Stephanie White, and Sophie Cunningham is exactly where “white privilege” comes into play (Well, ONE of the many places it comes into play). DiJonai’s harassment wasn’t even considered or mentioned. Why not? She spoke about it with media yesterday. She has actually spoken up about it multiple times. Over years. Holly Rowe only referenced DiJonai as the player who committed the foul, as if she’s merely a piece of the story that sparked harassment rather than one of the primary people being slandered and attacked. Go look at DiJonai'scomments on any social media platform right now. Whether DiJonai posted “WHITE. PRIVILEGE” or not, she was going to be attacked, just as nearly any player who has a negative interaction with certain players. “Fans” of players who grift, refuse to speak up, or lack integrity are taking over conversations surrounding this league. I receive racist messages and comments myself simply for being a fan of DiJonai. I see it. I read it. Does it hurt me? No. But what hurts and infuriates me is that seemingly no one who claims to love the WNBA and has a prominent role in the industry can discuss what’s happening honestly and responsibly on national television—or at all. If you’re going to bring vitriol and harassment into the conversation, then tell the whole story. Don't specifically name a team and certain individuals and then try to frame as if you're speaking about "the whole league," if you're leaving the main one being harassed out.
