Why haven't the Iranian people come out to protest yet after the joint military operations by Israel and the United States against the Islamic Republic? I keep getting this question from journalists who view the current quiet as a failure. They completely misunderstand the situation. It was clearly communicated by Prince Reza Pahlavi that the time to come out has not arrived. The message was to stay home while the military operations take place to reduce the suppressing power of the Islamic Republic. Once that level is complete, the signal will be given. It has actually been a challenge to keep the Iranian people in their homes. They are eager to come out and get revenge. Many outsiders saw the extreme cruelty the regime displayed in early January and assumed that was the last time the Iranian people would try to rise up. They could not be more wrong. The regime kills to create fear, but they get anger instead. The price the Iranian people have paid is too high to give up. They are being wise and following the command of their leader, waiting for the right time. The suffering does not happen to them one by one but as a shared experience of terror. This is an experience that no animal should ever be forced to endure. The reality is not clinical or quick. It is emotionally devastating to the animals caught in it because it destroys the flock bond that is their only sense of stability and then it destroys the birds themselves. Understanding this matters because it shows that the harm done to these animals was not only physical but deeply emotional. The ostriches suffered long before any final action was taken against their bodies. They suffered through fear they could not escape through the panic created by the collapse of their flock and through the helplessness of being unable to understand why the world around them suddenly turned violent. Recognizing this is essential because it reveals the true scale of what was done. This was not a neutral procedure. This was the infliction of terror on beings capable of feeling it powerfully. The public deserves to know that these birds were not indifferent creatures. They were living animals who felt fear and confusion and distress and whose final experiences were shaped by violence they could not comprehend or escape.

As long as there are 1 to 2 executions a day by the Islamic regime in Iran, it doesn’t feel like much of a regime change. The people of Iran want this Islamist, brutal, monstrous regime completely gone. They will not accept any sort of replacement from within the regime. They are ready for a secular democracy. They have tasted that. They know what freedom feels like. It was only 47 years ago within all of our lifetimes.
