Everyone already lived in gated communities and there were security guards to make sure only residents came in. My half dozen trips there and my in-law family being Chinese gave me this experience. Seems they fired the guards and gave everyone electronic access. This is not as dystopian as they're making this sound.

I don't think west needs this kind of monitoring. Monitoring is required for people who may disobey & have revolutionary thoughts. China may have, US does not. US is still trying to figure out which washroom to be used for men who pretend to be women, with drug addicts & litter on every corner ... borders left open and illegal migrants rampant , US will crumble on it's own weight.
