When did schools start having ceremonies for elementary schools? Even my son went through elementary grades in the early 90’s and we never had these events. You just moved up and moved on. There weren’t any ceremonies until graduating middle school (Junior High for us Gen-X’ers). Seems pointless to me. Who wants to have to tangle grade schoolers who don’t even know or care what is going on and would rather be playing or eating or sleeping. I think I recall my folks taking me out to a Mexican buffet that I liked, and a drive-in movie when I finished sixth grade. Then we spent a month in the summer at the beach with family friends. I had just gotten out of the military the year my kid finished sixth grade and we took him to Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood then spent a week along the coast from Long Beach to Cambria.

Seriously, kindergarten graduations… no. I refuse. I can barely summon the energy for real graduations like high school and university.

Graduation, seriously? When I went to Kindergarten there was no graduation. We were relieved just to go home and chill.

Based on their expressions in some pictures taken of my son's HS graduation yesterday, the graduates all felt the exact same way. But they brightened up when it came time to do the walk.
