Everyone talks about formation on paper but this matters less, shape is often different for each phase of play. I did a tactics board video going through Michael Carrick’s tactics at Middlesborough for BBC Sport illustrating this point and showing what he may work to with United.

Dansby Swanson walking through this infield routine via his YouTube video. I cut it up to show my favorite parts but the full length video is on his channel. I just stumbled on this and absolutely love seeing different perspectives on how the pros go about their routines. Everyone is different but the fact he is sharing what makes him great, for free, is a huge advantage to the youth/coaches/parents out there. I wish I had videos like this growing up! It may be baseball but it 100% applies to softball.

Mark Schlereth was asked if Brandon Aiyuk is worth the trouble to potential teams: “If I were a GM, I wouldn’t even think about bringing Brandon Aiyuk on my team. I don’t care how talented he is. At what point is he going to be upset about where he’s going to sit on the plane? At what point is he going to be upset that he only got two targets and didn’t have a catch in a game? At what point is he going to stop showing up to work?… I always say this about guys, intrinsically motivated vs extrinsically motivated. He’s neither. The dude got paid and he still quit.”

DB Finish Drills - The most important part of secondary play is the finish - Coaches need to work with players on not panicking at the end of the play - Every DB at every level is going to get beaten at some point - The difference between good and elite is not panicking and playing the football - Work on in phase, out of phase, and trail to finish on the ball - 2 ball drill - running downhill, finish and catch the football, then high point another ball - Put the DBs in different spots, different passes, give them landmarks to work through and finish Andy LaRussa, Asst Head Coach, Western Kentucky Andy LaRussa #GlazierClinics

This has probably been one of the coolest teams in the sense of everyone understands who each other is, accepting them for who they are, and going out there and competing and have each other’s back.
